Yes, i see your point about this Ronja, but also i see the nurses point of view in this, and lets be honest Ronja even well educated africans can resort to these kinds of (cures) or beliefs. I went to a church in North London once with my husband both of us at the request of his sister, this church was not a church the kind we are used to anyway, at this service i witnessed something uncomfortable for myself, apparently according to the congregation a 6 yr old belonging to them was possessed by an evil spirit, ie there was lot of laying hands on childs head and praying for her soul, it was an absolute train wreck 6yrs old. My husband actually fell out with his sister for inviting us to this freak show, only for a few weeks but refused to give her money after untill she found a different church. They were not stupid people, they were pulling up in Mercs and BMWs but when they were inside that church they were absolute idiots. Even education does not help a certain few Ronja, I disagree that africans are stupid or lazy, many have a stronger work ethic due to the fact thats the way it is over there, you don't get something for nothing, nobody gets comfortable enough to be lazy.
Well hello hello Matt... welcome to the wonderful land of Oz... and your point is agreed with. Except for the idiot part, just was just added for emphasis.
I have African professors at the school I'm attending. These men are some of the most thought provoking people I have ever known. In fact, the true africans hunger for knowledge and they encourage you to do the same and not be dependent on someone else. I wish I could say the same for many so-called "African-Americans".
:smt104 Don't diss African-Americans. They made significant contributions/inventions to the development of the US of A and still do. :smt045
Not dissing African Americans, just stating fact. North American blacks are far different from true Africans in terms of culture, how they view the world, and their own potentials when it comes to intellectual achievement and the thirst for learning. True, this is not the case in all instances, but it is disporportionate in terms of the achievement levels between the two. I too understand that North American blacks do not like criticism or to be told truths. On the other hand I have found Africans willing to accept faults, yet they have a tremendous motivation to achieve what they want and to correct their faults.
Wow, what a breath of fresh air. I agree that both positive and negative blanket statements abound on this forum. It's often hard to understand why folks who've opened up their minds to interracial relationships have closed their minds regarding other issues. Am I being too optimistic when thinking that the opportunity that this forum provides for discussion might give some closed-minded individuals cause to pause? One can only hope.
Stupid Americans I protest. It is quite in vogue these days to criticize those "ignorant Americans" (really we should be called "citizens of the US" as to not encroach upon our brothers and sisters in the rest of the Americas) but I must counter with a few points: #1 I live in the Northeast section of the United States. Most of my friends are middle class and educated. We know our geography. We search out and read alternative international news sources. This "America" that everyone speaks of is not my reality. I have only ever met 1 anti-muslim American in my whole life (and I had to go to Europe to hear her spew her hate speech). #2 People expect US citizens to know about what is going on with the Canadian army. Do YOU know what is going on with the Mexican army? The Nicaraguan army? The Mauritian army? How can US citizens, even the most informed of us, know the history and current political events of every single country on the face of the planet? I don't know any Asians or Africans or Europeans or even Canadians who know all of that. #3 I have lived on 3 continents now and I find ignorant people wherever I go. While it is true, there are some very scary and ignorant citizens of my country, I also find that in other places- and usually to a higher extent. #4 People overestimate the education that most citizens of the US receive. Only 20% of our citizens are considered middle class. And a small percentage is considered wealthy. That leaves the majority of US citizens as working class or poor. Quality of education in the US is unfortunately dependent on money. If you don't have a lot of money, it is more rare and difficult to receive a quality education. It is a pity that Cuba has a higher literacy rate than the US. SO... why would you think that people who are so poorly educated would know every detail about every other country in the world? You don't. Well, I could say more, but I think I'll breathe and leave my rant here....Qdiva
Hi QDiva, I would like to apologize for writing my post in a manner that led you to believe that I thought US citizens should know everything about Canada, Mexico or Saturn for that matter. I wasn't sure if the "people" you'd mentioned in your post meant everyone on earth or Canadians or women or just me so I am writing as if you meant everyone outside of the US, but specifically me. I was not making any generalizations in my post, I'd indicated one person that I'd talked to who didn't know that their largest neighbour was fighting beside them in Afghanistan. I am not a military expert nor do I have to be because our military is doing a great job of keeping us safe enough that I can choose to follow the war or not. I have no idea how many US troops are overseas, but I do know that there are many more than Canada has there. I just want to reiterate that I did not nor will I ever generalize about US citizens because I perceive it to be unfair and simply incorrect. Cheers.
We're all guilty of making generalization when we speak or write and that's what I tried to explain in post. It's one of the bad habit human being have all in common. I personally understood exactly what you meant. I live here in the United States and I heard many time from many Americans"The French are so rude". An example of a generalization. If you watch Bill Maher show, he is an American who constantly say "Americans are so stupid". Coluche used to say the French were dumb, but smarter than the Belgians etc.
What do the French say about the British? You mean other than your food taste like crap and the climate in the U.K would drive even the most cheerful person into suicide? lol Just kidding, I am not even French, I just happen to speak it and I love French comedians.
No lie!! that actually made me laugh out loud, aint i a sad bast*rd lol. I think it goes like this (beware im gonna madly generalise now!!) UK/ Brits are classy, naturally goodlooking, witty, funny, borderline genius and we don't drink our tea iced we drink it hot! hot! hot! just like we are :mrgreen:
Im glad your not French, because i was just about to say the only thing i know about the French is they like to, Sit On The Fence And Get Splinters In There Arse, lol lol
Well, here are some links that talk about the "so-called" African immigrant success. Too bad I am not one of the many successfull Africans in the U.S http://www.smm.org/buzz/blog/african...cks_in_college http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/...migrants_N.htm http://www.bgsu.edu/offices/mc/news/2008/news48744.html And in this book, there's a census saying that there are more than 30 thousand Nigerian doctors in the United States alone and countless of successful educated Ghananians. http://www.amazon.com/Relations-Betw.../dp/0980253454 http://www.mshale.com/article.cfm?articleID=1464
Oh yeah? That's rather nice compared to what I heard Americans say about the French. "They don't bathe, women don't shave their arm pits, they are surrendering cheese monkeys" And my favorite: "We save you from the Germans", to which I once replied" They saved you from the English first, so you're quits" :tonqe:
Lol But don't forget we helped save them from the Germans too, the French i mean, damn im coming over all patriotic beware i might start belting out god save the Queen
