Good news and bad news to anyone who likes this lady that wo the first America's top Model contest: The "good news" is that back in high school she dated a black dude. Accoding to her he had really dark skin. The bad news is she used this information as a buffer to any suggestion that she may be a racist because of the rant she was about to make about Black History Month and BET. Want to know what the heck I'm talking about? Click on the link below: http://justjared.buzznet.com/2007/09/22/adrianne-curry-racist/ Lots of silly points she made there. I will say that even as a black person I was never too comfortable with Black History Month. But at the same time I understand the history of why such a celebration was necessary in the first place. Obviously she doesn't. Second of all I hate BET and haven't watched more than an hour total of the network for the past ten years. Still the only thing BET is guilty of (well, besides horrible programming) is a lack of subtlety in picking out a name for itself (far too many black companies and publications do that IMO. If the network had been called the Urban Network would black people have not discovered it on cable? and would it had taken any white person more than a few minutes to see who the target audience was?). She should boycott BET because its horrible, not because its geared towards black people. BET has had white viewers since its inception so its not as if its exclusive to a black audience. I mean the country music TV stations are technically open to everyone as well but its clearly geared towards white folks. Of course none of them are called the White Television Network. Also there is a Native American History Month and a Hispanic History Month and I belieev an Asian American History Month. They just haven't been around as long nor are they yet as publicized. Sure I understand her point that having a seperate month for one race may seem odd in 2007 but she could have used less venom and hyperbole. And she could have at least know about the other designated months for other minorities. Also black people have been slaves around the globe longer than their salvery experience in the Americas and I'm pretty sure plenty of black people/slaves were used to build the pyramids as well. And while I tend to agree that Native Americans got the worst end of the it of all people in this country, I don't think someone like her should try to decide which race suffered most considering it was her race/ancestors dishing out the suffering to both groups. Plus one reason why the treatment of Native Americans is generally ignored or covered up is that so many of them were wiped out by white settlers and colonists (one of the greatest genocides ever) there aren't enough around anymore to be wooed politically in the first place. Last of all she should try asking her Jewish husband why the Jews haven't gotten over the Holocaust and moved on. Lets see if such a silly suggestion would fly with him. But, hey, at least some black dude may have gotten "lucky" back in the day with this chick. Oh...and I would have linked some pictures of her but I'm still waiting on any of you here to answer my two week old request and give me the rundown on how I can do that.
since when did having a black boyfriend in the past, dictate whether or not a person had the potential to be a racist, along other spectrums in the present? if she's using that as her main line of defense, she must think her audiences are complete idiots, and she's going to go down in flames.
That is another reason why I hate reality TV. Losers and idiots like her making a fool out of themselves by doing and saying stupid things while they are being cast under the microscope. Some of the other reasons I hate it are that it does not reflect true reality (eating crickets, participating in rehearsed contests a la Survivor, and inviting 16 losers to stay in big houses while one moron chooses which one would be the perfect spouse), it is pretty much staged like the WWE, and it is simply boring entertainment. I am boycotting BET and MTV because of the false impressions their shows create of African-Americans, as well as the dumb rap videos. And personally it would be a bad idea to get rid of Black History Month, as well as Hispanic and Native American History Months since there are kids out there who need to know about what happened in the US and who invented certain things also who discovered certain places and such. I personally feel she needs to be more aware and educated on racial diversity even though she did dated interracially. What she said made herself a complete jackass.
Hate to break it to you but the lovely lady at the bottom of your post could be accused of saying something just as stupid. After Kanye West did his "George Bush hates black people" speech she publicly scolded him (which is okay) and essentially said racism doesn't exist anymore (which is not so okay). She's still hot as ::bleep:: though.
That is news to me. I pile on rappers myself for the crap they do and say, but that is a new one. It just shows that I rarely pay attention to what celebrities do other than say racist and offensive things, get caught with drug and alcohol use, and allegedly kill innocent people.
Well, here is the actual quote which may or may not sound as bad as how I and others have expressed it: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/10995079/page/4/ West’s comments brought a predictable firestorm of controversy and criticism. Television ingenue Kelly Carlson, star of the series “Nip/Tuck,” was offended. “I don’t think a lot of people this day and age dislike black people,” the young white starlet said. “I mean I think we’ve kind of moved on from that. So to go on television and say that, I think it’s tacky, I think it’s very low rent.” There was also something out there about her making excuses for the delays in the Katrina response but I can't locate them to confirm. And even if she did make comments like that as well she may truly believe there isn't a racial agenda at all. While I partially disagree I can respect a person's opinion even if it differs from mine. But I'm not exactly buying her not many people dislike blacks stance. Hell, she's from Minnesota where blondes have been stereotyped for having a favorable IR slant anyway And she spent much time in Hollywood. She should try spending some time iin other parts of the country and around folks who aren't so enlightened. Still a hottie.
That is a well-written article. I don't agree that the slow response to the disaster was race related, since there were whites and Native Americans living the Gulf Coast region who were suffering as bad as African-Americans were. This was more cultural. Regarding what Kanye said, I feel there is some truth to that, but there were, and still are, some African-Americans who like Bush (I am definitely not one of them) and they feel the feeling is mutual. I necessarily don't agree with what Kelly said. That doesn't mean she is biased or anything, I obviously don't think she is. I do have a problem though with some of the artists who donated their own money to help rebuild portions of the region that were rocked by the storm. Their own music (Kanye's music also) is filled with uses of the n-word. There is absolutely nothing endearing and positive about referring to a group of people n-words, it just isn't. To be taken seriously, these artists need to know how not to offend people like that. Of course they will be known for the crap they say in their music, not for the positivity they try to bring in. The general public feels they are really bad news, some of them are anyway.
your response is bullshit, you have a problem with artists helping to rebuild katrina?. come now man, your one of those who only focuses on negatives that black men do. you got issues homeboy.
Let me just say that I believe the response would have been somewhat quicker if those folks were white instead of black :!: I have that much "faith" in how things go in this country.
What I meant to say I have a problem with the overall attitudes with the artists who have donated their time to rebuilding that region. What they did down there was great, but that doesn't mean I respect them solely for that. For these artists to be more respected and admired as good people, they can't rap about anti-social behavior, living the thug life, and referring to their friends and anyone else as racial slurs. They will be remembered for that, as well as not having that much respect for the law. They are being watched under the microscope. Also, I don't they are aware that there are a lot of people, myself included, that are deeply disgusted and offended with the stuff they say in their music.
I seriously doubt most of the artists who have donated time, effort and/or money to that region fit that description you just gave. So that's a moot point IMO.
I gotta agree atleast they put their money where their mouth is, I get tired of folks talking about all rap artists are bad and this and that, I think some folks do that just to try and cozy up to white folks and play the old I am not like them card. Remember white folks do ignorant stuff also and their are a lot of rap groups out there who do not use the word, you know and I know that the responce would have been faster if it had been whites and not poor whites and blacks, hell they got to southeast asia fast when that tsunami hit so what is their excuse for taking their sweet time for the Katrina victims both white and black.
