I found the following article to be simply fascinating about two black men who dealt with racism in their own rights, Jack Johnson and Scott Joplin. http://www.smithsonianmag.com/history-archaeology/A-Year-of-Hope-for-Joplin-and-Johnson.html
have you seen Unforgivable Blackness: The Jack Johnson story? Its probably my favorite profile of a historical figure. Its one of the best PBS has ever offered.
Yes, I have seen it. What an excellent documentry. There was information about Jack Johnson I never knew. I liked the historical comparison between Johnson and Ali. Both men were ahead of their times in the eras in which they lived. I have found it surprising very few black men I know have seen this documentry much less know anything about Jack Johnson.
I saw the Ken Burns documentary and the one in which Miles Davis played the sound track. Enjoyed them both.
