I didnt say it was impossible for average parents to produce a genius. It is just less likely, than non-average parents, thats all. What I am saying is really simple, and it is correct.
Occupation can be a good indicator of intellectual ability: you dont come across stupid doctors. So when someone says they are a doctor, you know they are sharp intellectually. Well as for geniuses, who's parents were both accomplished, thats easy. Heard of Mr Bill Gates? Have a look at what both his parents do/did. And as for that bullshit you wrote about China and India, it makes no sense at all.In this instance, GDP per capita is a better indicator about there countries standard of living than just GDP on its own . Of course China will have a huge GDP, look how many people live there, and churn out all sorts of garments. It isnt really fair to compare China's GDP to Botswana and conclude that Chinese people have a better standard of living. Therefore in this case GDP per capita is a much better indicator of standard of living.
I never said occupation wasn't a good indicator it's just not the only one. I gave several examples and you gave just one to support your arguement. That in itself helps to prove my point. And here is where your theory gets messed up. If genius was only or most held with in the elite then every wealthy person would be a genius because they have the resources to make it so. Explain the likes of Paris Hilton and George Bush jr. Both come from very well accomplished families but both dumb as hell. Wealth distribution is more GNP than GDP. Just because GDP per capita is lower in China isn't that of Botswana doesn't mean that it doesn't have more wealth. China being a communist country determines where the wealth goes. They focus a lot of that wealth on education.
Swazi- I know you are from Swaziland. When I said south Africa, I did not mean the country, I meant the southern hemisphere of Africa. Ok here it goes..... India- is a country with >1.1 billion pop. It is a former british colony. English is widely used for school and for business. Ghandi and his friends pushed very hard for education especially science. China-is also a country >1.2 billion population. Most ppl speak Mandarin or cantonase. The chinese have been pushing science and education in general for years. Africa- In the other hand is a large continent, whic has about 55 countries. Close to 16?? countries are francophone, about 18?? countries are widely english speaking. On the North- most are arabs and speak arabic even if their business lang for most part is a latin origin language (eg-Tunisa, Morroco, Lybia, Algeria do also speak french). Mozambique and Nambia speak portugese. On the east-the Ethiopians, somalians, Eriterians and Djibouti mostly speak their own tounge. Africa is a complicated continent with war, tribal dispute, dictators, weather conditions, greedy leaders, rular kids not having access to good education and so on..... So the chance of missing a genius African kid is a lot higer than a chinese or an Indian kid. The comparison is not a good one for obvious complex above reasons. I have seen rich Indian kids from gifted Indian doctor familes who were a subpar students and struggling in basic college courses. So again this points out that two genius parents do not always create genius kids, in fact, they can create a dumb ones. Like I said b4 Genetics is a very complex issue, it is not a straight forward topic. Because of this discussion I called one of my Nigerian buddy, who is a brilliant PhD Genetician/Geneticist and asked him what he thinks about this issue. His response was plain and simple "Genetics is more than meets the eye, it is a complex topic. GZ peace, I am out to chase white pussy".
Although a complex issue (genetics) - Mendelian theory demonstrate what GZ talks about in an easy to grasp way... You can have the genotype for high intelligence but not nessesarily have the phenotype. Hence, you can carry it forward to your offspring and in the perfect match with your spouce also of intelligence as a genotype but not phenotype - and, voila, you have a genious kid.
Geeky- yes that's true. But if the 2 parents who are carrying the genius genes did not manifest it and did not further their academic acheivements (for eg. if both chose to do drop out of middle school and became a manual laborers) how do we know they are carrying the genius genes, unless significant testing was done and so on...... Anyways, I am out......am going to play basket ball in co-ed team and whip some ass. I might not have MJ's genes, but dammit I am better than one of his son. Foshizle. LoL Have a nice day yo!
At the risk of championing the Indian corner too much, 40% of India's population is illiterate. Ghandi may have championed for Education, but over 400 million Indians cant read or write. So I wouldnt be too sure about the chance of missing a genius would be higher in India than Africa. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Education_in_India Well as for China you may have a point. But India I dont think so.
Swazi- so 400 Mil Indians cant read then that leaves close to 800 who can in one country. What is the pop of Africa? close to 800 million (in about 55 countries)??? out of that how many of them cant read and write??? probably tons..... And from those who got a chance to attend school, how many of them would be in bigger cities in a well funded school? Again this proves that the chance of missing an African Genius is a lot higher.
Africa has a population of over a Billion people. You cant say for sure that more than 200 million Africans are illiterate.
when I was discussing the issue, I was going of memory. Last I heard Africa had less population than India or China. In fact the number I heard was close to 800. Can you provide a link that states >1 Bil? Swazi-are you kidding me? I do not know the numbers but there are tons who cant read. You have to base your argument continent wide not just the southern hemisphere. I know Botswana for sure and Swazi and the neighborig countries also might have very low number of illiteracy. But you got to travel to the north, west, east, central Africa to appreciate the problem. I wish Christine and Machivel is here to discuss this.
I dont know if I am going to take wikipedia as a legimate source. I will check UN or other sites. Even if Africa has 1 bil- again the argument still stands. 1 bil divided by about 55 countries with so many languages, so many corrupt governments, issues, etc..... The chance of a poor dirt African genius being discovered and recognized world wide is much less......
You're arguement is still weak. Too many of our greatest minds came from huble beginnings for your claim to hold and legitimacy.
Namibia speaks Portuguese?...Im sure you meant Angola cuz Ive been to Namibia/botwana/south africa, all are english (and some dutch) speaking. Check yourself, bud But here's an interesting notion worth pondering: Lets say you put Terrel Owens and Bill Gates on a football field, who do you thnk would look "dumber" while running (remember T.O runs 40 yards (36m) in 4.3 seconds, that’s 4.3/40 x/36= 3.87 secs/36m= 9.3m/sec =33.4 km/hr) through guys weighing avg 250 lbs approaching at a velocity of +/- 20km/hr making quick (reflex-reaction time rate +/- 0.010 ms) critical decisions whilst keeping an eye on the prize (touchdown line 10-25 yards away) . Applying the momentum impulse theorem (law of motion), the equation would be mVfinal- mVinitial= Favg t ----however if mVfinal is 0 due to collision between bodies ....Favg= mVinitial/t (where m = mass of moving object, initial motion at speed v and finish at vfinal. If the time of change in velocity is t, then the avg force required is F. Terrel Owens weighs about 215 lbs(95.5kg) with an initial speed 33.4km/hr , if the collision time between him and a 125 kg object traveling in his direction at velocity 20km/hr is 02 seconds, then the amount of time needed to make the decision to avoid collision is 0.1 miliseconds to avoid an impact force of approx 80 000 newtons whilst keeping an eye on the finish line (lets say 20m away).. Decision making is a major aspect of intelligence, similar in formula one racing or luger athletes (remember what happened at the Olympics?..going at that pace and making the level of decisions they make is a matter of life and death), you cant at all say these people are any less intelligent than Bill Gates. So to answer my own question, obviously Bill Gates would look dumber than T.O on a football field, but that doesn’t mean T.O is any smarter than him. TO is simply good at what he does (and so is Bill) and has mastered his craft. The point im making is that evry respective field has its prodigies, plain and simple. Swazi king is starting to strike me as a self hating Negro, more and more. I remember him saying he can "tell" whether someone is "african" simply by looking at them ( as in ,Africans and African Americans look completely different). What a loud of bunk. Now he’s claiming that Africa creates fewer geniuses than Asia or Europe. WTF is that?. Maybe Europeans and ASIANS are simply better at test taking? The fact is anyone can take mensa tests and excel at them given the correct practicing material, which is why you don’t see me boasting about any of these tests (which I usually ace) because I personally have mastered the concept of test taking (and mathematic reasoning), and THAT’S where it ends, I doubt my IQ is any higher or lower than a person in the same situation. In fact, I remember working at the army base some summers ago (The pay was decent + memorable experience). I ended up dating(or w/e) this reception girl. To make a long story short, her uncle was the air lieutenant who also administered the Army aptitude test. So me being the braggadocio that I am, I told him I was the smartest guy HE had ever encountered (just a bluff ofcourse) and asked him if I could do the aptitude test right there.(I ended up acing it). While I was bragging to the CF staff about how easy the test was, the base commander or colonel (or something) came up to me and dared me to take their AF aptitude test under his supervision. I did it and shmashed it again, beating his personal best by 20 points. Of course, I laughed my ass off as this occurred, because he was like,,whoa,,,this kid is brilliant…but that’s not the case… im not smart at all, im just good at acing that kinda stuff. [In fact I love jobs which provide IQ tests for screening potential employees because they make me appear smarter than I do at the actual interviews lol lol] Needless to say, the same colonel later that summer, asked me if I wanted a full time position as an aviation structural system mechanic (something to that effect) with benefits packages and all that good stuff. But he first wanted me to go through basic training (read: more schooling) because apparently I am brilliant (his words) in the theoretics but he did not trust my experience (or lack there of) ……some bullshit... I laughed at him, I was only 21, and while im good at mechanic-mathematic concepts, my goal was to be a civil engineer, not a mechanical. He was distraught as I said this Anyways, that was a lotta writing but the point is made 1)every field has its geniuses 2)Anyone can ace the mensa test with enough practicing material 3) We cant really tell which race creates the most geniuses- but we can tell which ones are better at test taking and 4) I should really shut up and catch some sun (its so nice out) Later
Come on now, are you trying to prove your maths skills? ANY maths, physics or engineering lecturer, would look at this and go WTF. The third line is wrong for a start! How can anyone who travels 36 metres in 4.3 seconds, travel according to you an average speed of 9.3m/s( Its WRONG).This is basic maths and you have got it wrong! Its a simple equation of Distance/time = 36/4.3 = 8.37m/s. If you cant get this right no point looking at the rest. That is elementary maths BTW. This ground has been covered already, no need to go there again. Problem with what you are saying is that you are assuming only tests are used to distinguish a genius. Its a lot more than that: The persons behaviour( how different they are to the norm is taken into account), also a major factor which you are overlooking for a person to be called a genius is their creativity. Intellectual geniuses are usually very creative, and see things other people dont immediately see. For example that Kid in the video clip has shown a new way to master the Nine times table. So really to say that if you master a mensa test, you qualify fully as a genius, is missing vital aspects of what being a true genius is.
BMJ-yep I meant Angola. I think some Nambians speak German tho due to Nambia being former German colony. Yes every field has its genius, never disputed that fact. Mozart is a genius for Classical music as Lebron James is a genius for BB and as freddy Adieu is genius for soccer. The only thing I was disputing-Africans do not create geniuses as much as India and so forth.....
Swazi-are you a self hating negro? lol, what is wrong with ya? Be proud of mama Africaaaa.....I'm usually a GQ type of guy but occasionally I wear my African dashiki and Native moccasin or mukluk just to fuk with some racist white folks. LoL
Lol..No self hating negro here. Just taking a different view to the rest of the forum. Very happy to be an African. BMJ calling me a self hating negro is water of a ducks back.
