https://www.yahoo.com/news/childhood-forever-changed-sad-sesame-145533908.html Excerpt from article Bob McGrath (Bob), Emilio Delgado (Luis) and Roscoe Orman (Gordon) have been fired from the classic children’s show after 45 years.....This isn’t the first major change that’s happened to Sesame Street. Last fall, the long-running series moved from PBS over to HBO (with re-airs continuing on PBS), and went from being an hour-long show to a half hour. ____//______________ Change is good? Wow that stinks. I loved sesame street
Gotta change with the times. Now instead of actually teaching kids, they are simply going to be entertained. That means younger, hipper faces to perform all those catchy, poppy tunes and cool dance steps that will go along with the songs....
This is outrageous. I grew up with those guys along with Susan,Maria,Mr.Hooper,David,as well as the major characters like Bert & Ernie,Big Bird etc. HBO is responsible of course.
45 years at the same job with a good salary is a blessing. Seriously there should be no complaints. Hopefully they saved and invested and live their golden years with no stress.
LOL. I was gonna say the same thing. Those dudes all had a great run but most of them are approaching their 70s. Time to exit the stage gracefully and allow a new generation to carry on the legacy of Sesame Street.
Bob, Luis and Gordon...fired? I remember Bob was the singer who sounded like Neil Sedaka. Luis dated Maria after David left. And Gordon was sort of an appendage to Susan. Mr. Hooper held that place together. 45 years is a long time to be on any tv show. There are some actors and actresses who had been on daytime soap operas like Eric Bearden(was known as Hans Gudegast on The Rat Patrol and portrayed Dr. Otto Haslein in Escape from the Planet of the Apes and was in the film Colossians: The Forbin Project. He did other shows like Kolchak, The Night Stalker and Mission: Impossible. He was in the horror film TheAmbulance and played Jacob Astor in James Cameron's Titanic). PBS owes these men BIG TIME. Thanks for the memories, Bob, Luis and Gordon.
G that is so true. I saw a rerun of "Sing Along With Mitch" back in the 80's and I noticed Bob was on that show. He is great singer. Those guys are the best. I hope they sue PBS and HBO and get big bucks.
Whom was your favorite celebrity to say the ABC's on Sesame Street? There were a lot of them who simply came on without any introduction and said the ABC's. For as long as I can remember, Pat Paulson was my favorite. I don't know why. He just seemed like a fun guy to watch as he looked into the camera and recited. After that, there is a round of applause. Tiny Tim popped by a couple of times back in the days. The 1-10 Song was pretty ahead of its time. The Fumbling Baker always made me laugh. There were two other men that were on Sesame Street. Their names were Buddy and Eddie, I think. They wore black suits and wore hats. I wondered back then if they were either cops or crooks. The Muppet/child interaction s were cute. Leonardo DiCaprio was said to have made and appearance on Sesame Street. HBO now owns Sesame Street. Before you know it, Law & Order:SVU might be picked up and they might include adult language, sex and nudity. It's not tv, it's HBO.
Shit like this is why public TV and radio should be fully funded. I've no problem with replacing the older actors. Times change and kids need new takes on things to get them, and keep them, excited about learning. But farming the show out to HBO and cutting it down to a half hour? No beuno. What about the kids who's families can't afford HBO? I could read before I started grade school. Public television (PBS) had a lot to do with that. Yet one more reason why being poor in this country is it's own kind of forced segregation. Sad ...
I remember watching The Electric Company by accident after Mister Rogers' Neighborhood went off on a Saturday afternoon. It was a very good show. Morgan Freeman and Rita Moreno were unforgettable. There was a Spanish and English language show called Villa Allegre. And let's not forget ZOOM. PBS is more valuable than anyone realizes.
Privatizing free social works programs is going to be the death of this country. Public television is one of those institutions that has quietly made America a stronger, more educated nation. Its content shouldn't be regulated to subscription TV service. In this country it's really getting to the point if you're poor, you're getting screwed in ways you don't even know.
I suspect those 3 Sesame Street cast members are among the few workers nowadays who retired with a really nice pension. Working on Sesame Street I doubt was just a job for them. It was a vocation and a lifestyle.
