one way to control is start making people register the gun on every sale. 40% of gun sales are privately done/after market those guns dont have to be registered. so IMO just like cars when a private person sale a car to the new owner they must register it to a national data gun base NOT JUST LOCAL with a national backround check.

next make assualt rifles illegal no grandfathering in. magazines should have no more than 5 rounds....no grandfathering. no one should have a sniper rifle....no grandfathering.

That sounds like illegal guns acquirement which isn't what we're talking about. You buy an illegal gun your ass should be locked up no questions no excuses. Legal gun owners have to register their guns.

This has been my point again and again.

Here is a very thought-provoking article about the media's role in what happened on Friday and really whenever something like this happens:

    http://news.yahoo.com/media-ashamed-connecticut-coverage-095500019.html

I think the last line is something that needs to be considered to some extent. To interview young children right after they escaped a horrific tragedy that will forever shape their lives is so very wrong.

There needs to be some control over the media in situations like these.

JFK, MLK etc. beg to differ

they still sell them mofos. also why do a person need a sniper rifle. dont say protect the house because that is a weak ass argument

Hunters are always very vocal about needing their scopes on their rifles.

    jfk? mlk?

    r u serious right now?

THAT is a weak ass argument

more people die from handguns..if you wanted to promote gun control, you'd be better off focusing on that instead of mentioning the odd and few incidents involving civvies with a sniper rifle

Then a person should be required to present their hunting license if they want to buy a high powered rifle for hunting.

There's too much shit out here being sold that has nothing at all to do with self-defense.

    And hence...for- profit insurance.

Because if the people who owned the gun befor the sale was made privately didn't tell the insurance company, and why wouldn't they...who wants to pay hefty premiums on a gun you don't even own...then they pay fines and are subject to lawsuits AS WELL as any damage to a person, whether accidental or not even if they don't own the gun.
The gun can be traced because it's registered to the previous owner through a complete and total check..
if it doesn't show up in a system somewhere...then the people who owned the gun previously are held accountable. Fines...or whatever.

Same as registering your car with the state. If you sell it and the new owners don't follow through on registering and paying taxes...you as the previous owner is held accountable.

It might not be fair...But it might make someone accountable for wtf is going on with all the guns out there that aren't tracked.

And I DON'T even wanna hear pro gun owners cry about oh, foul...I shouldn't be held liable and have to pay for someone elses wrong doing.

Yeah, well. Why don't you scream that argument to the people who will be burying their loved ones this christmas.

also, as far as self -defense...if you are at home and you are in a gun fight for more than 15 seconds.....they are not there to get your TV......you pissed somebody off.

I've been reading what others have said about this, and I've come to an conclusion. If we want to stop these nut jobs from killing innocent people, we have to stop putting them on TV; making them seem important. You see, most of these people are nobodies that no one would give a **** about if they offed themselves. But, they know if they commit a horrific crime such as this one, it will make the national news and they'll become infamous.

Basically what I'm trying to say is stop giving these crazies a platform. Don't talk about the killer, only focus on the victims. If this occurs, whats the incentive for these people to kill innocent people if it won't make them infamous? Which is what they really want, since they couldn't become famous on their own.

Just my take on this tragedy. I'll be praying for the families.

Most states already restrict or ban the use of high powered rifles for hunting. The range of the ammo is too dangerous.

im more likely to be killed by a drunken motorist with no reason to be behind the wheel, than by some wingnut with a .50
