Yeah I try to put issues of police brutality into the same threads Every week there's a new case of someone unarmed being killed, or someone being released after a wrongful conviction...generally men of color Fuck the world
It's hard to stay upbeat in the face of all this. And even worse is all the racist innuendo coming from people attempting to justify the shootings. Man, you never know who your friends are until something like this happens.
THIS I've had to defriend a ton of people on fb. What's weird is we all grew up together went to school together, hell even been to a few of their weddings and its crazy to me how many of them harbor this guilty until proven innocent attitudes towards black people.
Hotcakes and eggs, lol. And coffee...black. And all the "If he didn't want to get shot, then he shouldn't have been selling loose cigarettes" (or the more euphemistic "he shouldn't have been breaking the law"), as if it's okay to get shot for a misdemeanor offense. Supporting wholly separate evaluative criteria when it comes to black offenders. Jim Crow, anyone? Oops, I mean "apartheid"?
You ain't lying Philly that shit was like being slapped across the face with a cold wash clothe. Or my favorite is "we weren't there we don't know what happened" yet have no problem saying "well he shouldn't have gone for the officer's gun" Wait I thought we weren't there and didn't know what happened?
I started trimming my FB list after a peek at some of those comment threads. It's almost all people from the coasts and abroad, lol. And that's not exactly a guarantee of open-mindedness, either.
But damn you'd hope that the hot bed of liberalism would produce less racist bs which begs to ask were we all living a lie. Obviously not all white people feel this way but its crazy to see how racist people are after hearing for so long that shit was in the past. One of my good friends was telling me last night (she's white) she had no clue how racist some of her coworkers and friends were before she started dating black guys. She'd show people pictures of her bf and they'd start laughing hard as hell because they it was a joke. They couldn't fathom her actually dating a black guy. Then every time she'd go out literally every black guy they'd see "hey there goes one for you" We are living in weird times.
You can't coach that reflex I've been seeing that a lot too....the mentality of some of these people remind me of judge dredd
