#1 Ice Cream is Vanilla?

For years, the ice cream flavor CONSIDERED to be the most popular is vanilla. Personally, I like vanilla but only because it is the easiest to mix with hot fudge brownies and chocolate syrup; or even hot apple pie or peach cobbler There is a brand of chocolate and vanilla swirl ice cream (I kid you not) that is sold at my local grocery store that is far richer than anything you'd find in a typical store...and it's great.

Here is a story from Yahoo....I hope no one takes me too seriously but I find it interesting that vanilla is always considered the best without much questioning of that premise and that CHOCOLATE IS ALWAYS #2!

For years, vanillahas been the favored flavor. Now, during the 25th anniversary of National Ice Cream Month, a Harris poll dares to declare chocolate as the ice cream choice of the American people.

Scandal! Upset! Could that sensuous hussy truly usurp the pure, comforting simplicity of the vanilla bean? Countless sources beg to differ, among them the NPD Group and the International Ice Cream Association(although, OK, that second list dates back to 2006).


Flavor Explosion
The real story isn't the favorite, but how many flavors exist nowadays. According to Country Living, the best-sellers from top brands are: Ben & Jerry's Cherry Garcia, Graeter's black raspberry chip, Baskin-Robbins Praline 'n' Cream, and Breyers vanilla.
Then you have taste masters creating mixes like ginger wasabi (Cold Stone). In Boston, the trend includes bitter basil, salty caramel, spicy chocolate, curried coconut. At the 2008 Yokohama Ice Cream Expo, where weird favors ruled, people couldn't get enough of the beef tongue. As if the milk from the cow wasn't enough.

Variations on a Cream
No bovine preferences among the ice cream flavors searched on Yahoo!, but trendy variations like basil did pop up, as did traditional standbys like butter brickle and oddities like Orange Crush (Another soda maker, Dr. Pepper appeared as among the topping choices, although peanut butter led the saucy searches.)

My favorite is chocolate or something with chocolate in it like pistacio almond fudge or jamocha fudge. Hmmm.........

 

I just got back from Blue Mesa brunch where I had blackberry cobbler topped with the most delicious ice cream.

I think my favorite is Marble Slab sweet cream or Baskin Robins peanutbutter and chocolate. Or sherberts, I love sherberts. Especially the citrus flavors.

This is such a coincidence because I was just thinking the other day that my favorite flavor of ice cream happened to be vanilla. Well, “French Vanilla” actually.

I don’t really like a whole lotta flavors because I’m a simple man with simple tastes. Coming in at 2nd would most likely be mint chocolate chip, and 3rd would probably be heath bar crunch.

Since I don’t care for sweets nearly as much as I used to, I just go with trusty French Vanilla and I can never go wrong.:tonqe:

Bereyers had this Black Rasberry Avalanche that I have not found in eons:-(
Had oldfashioned vanilla and black rasberries with dark chocolate pieces..
That is my no 1, if I can ever find it again.

I love any ice cream that has a relatively high amount of milkfat...creamy is the key. Obviously more milkfat makes it prone to melt a bit quicker but as long as it is not too "icy", it is all good.

 

Damn skippy.

Ice cream....mmmmm. I like:

Ben and Jerry's dealing with variations on the following: cheesecake, brownies, cheesecake brownies, cookie dough, cookies, caramel, little caramel chocolates, and coffee.

And butter pecan.

And there's not a damn thing wrong with just plain chocolate, or vanilla, but it's great when you got em together in the bowl.

I don't really eat ice cream much, though. So when I do I like good shit. lol

I'm a vanilla girl too. I like to add chocolate sauce or something chocolate to it. I guess that I like my ice cream like I like my relationships...with a little swirl in it.

Tony, I also like French Vanilla, but I've found that adding a little mocha to it makes it even better. :tonqe:

I'm not really a fan of vanilla icecream I much prefer chocolate.
