The Number of Male Domestic Abuse Victims Is Shockingly High — So Why Don’t We Hear About Them?

When you think of a victim of domestic abuse, who comes to mind?

If you’re being honest, it’s probably a woman. After all, domestic violence against men isn’t a theme of many Hollywood movies.
Yet in 2010, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released data from its National Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence Survey — and one of the most shocking statistics wasn’t just the sheer total of victims of physical violence but also how those numbers broke down by gender.
According to the CDC’s statistics — estimates based on more than 18,000* telephone-survey responses in the United States — roughly 5,365,000 men had been victims of intimate partner physical violence in the previous 12 months, compared with 4,741,000 women. By the study’s definition, physical violence includes*slapping, pushing, and shoving.*
More severe threats like being*beaten, burned, choked, kicked, slammed with a heavy object, or hit with a fist were also tracked. Roughly 40 percent of the victims of severe physical violence were men. The CDC repeated the survey in 2011, the results of which were published in 2014, and found almost identical numbers — with the percentage of male severe physical violence victims slightly rising......

The abuse doesn't have to be physical. It can be mental and emotional, as well. Men and women are capable of doing harm in a variety of ways.

The seeming apathy to male victims boils down to two factors.

    History/Society

Our societies history has taught us that males are supposed to absorb pain and suffering, and females are supposed to be protected from pain and injury. Chivalry, is why historically men die at higher rates and much more violently than women do.

It's why so many people were upset over the (off screen) violence perpetrated against Sansa Stark on Game Of Thrones, but were indifferent to the (on screen) violence committed against Theon Greyjoy.

    Radical elements in feminism.

There are radicalized groups within feminism who subscribe to the "only women can be victims" ideology. These people seem to think that if we acknowledge that male victims exist, we are taking something away from women. And since feminist are hesitant to scrutinize each others ideas, nobody challenges them.

How much can a man take? There are limits to how much a man can take. One cannot be Superman. No matter how tough a person is, they know that they are and always will be human.

    Repped.

    Look at their definition of 'abuse';
By the study’s definition, physical violence includes*slapping, pushing, and shoving.*

    That's some BS.

At minimum, I've outweighed my GFs by EIGHTY POUNDS. I work out 4 days/week.
For someone to say a 5'5, 135# woman pushing me in the same as my 6'1, 225# ass pushing her is just crazy.

Physical abuse means to me that you fear for your physical well-being from your spouse or significant other whenever they put their hands on you.

    I've NEVER experienced that.

That article is trying to get page clicks by pretending to be controversial.

Sure there are dudes out here being beat up on the DL by their women, but IMO that's a really small number.

Who are you to tell someone else what might be painful or not?
Who are you to tell another person when they should be in fear of their physical safety?
How about everybody just keep their fucking hands to themselves?

I'm glad that you don't experience violence in your relationships, but that doesn't make it any less real for the people who do.

Slapping, pushing, and shoving are also definitions used to describe domestic violence against women. Violence is violence. Someone doesn't have to end up in the emergency room to be a victim.

    lol.

Sure there are some guys that get beat up by their woman, and it's up to him to press charges or whatever and the law should handle it when there is a legitimate concern.

    But...

I'm with Boba on this, can't really feel sorry for you. You have rights under the law but you are still a sissy. Men are naturally bigger and stronger than women so it only takes common sense to pick a woman that you can handle. Personally I think it would look ridiculous to see someone put his baby's mother in jail while they are living together.

In other words don't kick it with a woman like Hope Solo if you are too much of a bitch to handle her. If she is truly crazy you should be able to move on without fearing for your life. lol

Smh and this right here is why aliens won't fuck with us lol
Carry on all you "real" men you

Or how about we teach everyone to keep their hands to themselves no exceptions.
It's weird as a grown as man you still use outdated terms like sissy.
And if you need to "handle" your woman then you really need to man the fuck up and choose better. That's some little kid shit.
