Well circa '08 there were white folks who were sayin' "Obama is not really blk, he is as much white as he is blk" but the moment he did something they did not like, they shipped his Nigga card via fed express priority mail, lol , that's America

Why are you all still harassing that sister? :p:p

It just goes to show you how much of this racial consciousness is 'American'. Even in racist attitudes in Europe, it's as much ethnicity as it is race. Europeans develop a much stronger 'white' racial consciousness being here than they have in Europe. And even in the US, in cities with a lot of ethnic diversity, whites still identify by ethnic group, unless it's a question of whiteness as juxtaposed against African-Americans or Latinos.

Here we go with the misquoting...

Reminds me of a clever meme I saw online that said "While everyone is focused on this...(picture of Dolezal sp?) they're forgetting this...(shot of cop with pool party teen cuffed face down). It made me think.

That's sex. The whole gender thing is so slippery because it's about mental state and self-perception. But I have always wondered how someone could 'feel' like a woman short of having mammary glands and giving birth. Isn't every other thing people ascribe to women as "femenine" really just a socially constructed role or trait? So when Jenner said he always 'felt' like a woman, how would he know? Does he mean he felt like he wanted to wear heels? Well there's no gene pair for high heels.

Rocking an egg whisk won't save you. Lol

Honestly, I don't care if she wants to be black as long as she did her job at the NAACP well. Did she help the people she was supposed to help? Did she discharge her duties as well, or better, than anyone else could have? If the answer is "yes" then why do I care?

The NAACP has had whites involved in the organisation since it's inception. It wasn't started by blacks only. Whites have always been in the mix. And, by all accounts, she has been down with the struggle and has probably done more "getting her hands dirty" in trenches than most of these outraged negroes have, or ever will have, done to help the cause. I'm going to get pissed at an ally because he or she told a few lies about his or her lineage? I swear my people sometimes get on my last nerve with that dumb shit. How much shit are those who can really do us harm getting away with while we remain tranfixed on this stupid, trival B.S.?

This whole thing is being blown way out of proportion because of one racist question; why would anyone want to be black? That, and black women feel even more threatened by white women now that one actually passed herself off as one of them.

Fam don't be so dismissive it's not trivial bs. And I really wish people would stop saying this woman fought in the trenches and has done more for the black community than most. As far as I've read she ran the NAACP for five years she wasn't organizing the march on Selma or doing years in jail for her political views on discrimination. She had a high salary and a coushy position in an area that wasn't in desperate need of advocates from what I've read.

Also I really love how the Huffington Post addressed her pretending to be black

Transracial identity is a concept that allows white people to indulge in blackness as a commodity, without having to actually engage with every facet of what being black entails -- discrimination, marginalization, oppression, and so on. It plays into racial stereotypes, and perpetuates the false idea that it is possible to "feel" a race. As a white woman, Dolezal retains her privilege; she can take out the box braids and strip off the self-tanner and navigate the world without the stigma tied to actually being black. Her connection to racial oppression is something she has complete control over, a costume she can put on -- and take off -- as she pleases.

Perhaps the most unfortunate thing about the Dolezal story is that she has operated in activist spaces, and has consistently expressed a desire to actually help the advancement of black people. But as Twitter user @MoreAndAgain pointed out last night, Dolezal could have gone to Howard, taught African studies, and been a member of the NAACP without actively trying to imply through self-tanner and curly wigs that she was black. (The NAACP's statement, released this afternoon declaring that "one’s racial identity is not a qualifying criteria or disqualifying standard for NAACP leadership," backs this assertion up.)

If Dolezal had lived her life as a visibly white ally, it would have been a powerful statement. Instead, she chose to actively lie about her identity, betraying the trust she had built within black activist spaces. There is the possibility, of course, that Dolezal's behavior goes far beyond mere white cluelessness and white appropriation, into the territory of mental illness. However, until she comments publicly, the drive behind her behavior remains a disturbing mystery.

Either they believe in the race concept or they claim privilege. Either way the goal of divide and conquer has been achieved. Anyone sitting on more than a net worth of 25 million shouldn't ever waste their time with such foolishness unless they live somewhere like LA or NY. In that case they would still only be upper middle class. lol
