Regardless of whether we want to coalesce or not, the numbers make a single race achieving victory on its own impossible. A popular front of people of color and the working class is the only thing that will change things, whether people like it or not. Issues unique to people of African ancestry must be addressed by us along with allies, but the broader oppression is class-based, and racism is a feature of it.

Yes. I think that racism is inextricably tied to capitalism, but I don't think racism has any operative force or reason for being outside of facilitating capitalist exploitation. In the relatively equal power distribution of the ancient world, there's little to suggest racism for racism's sake. I think it's a feature and tool of modern economic systems.

 

But what about caste systems in India and northern Africa based on color.

While I was thinking primarily about industrial capitalist societies, I don't think it exists outside of its use to facilitate economic oppression. I could be wrong, but I bet that even in those primordial or traditional societies it has its roots in dominance over one other to control resources, etc.
