no you are assuming that there wasn't any suspicious behavior and they were just accused of shoplifting while black...I worked yesterday and there were several black women in the store...a couple of them I helped and they were lovely and thanked me for my help...two other women I walked by twice doing something else and on the third passing I asked if I could assist with anything...they declined and as I walked away one said to the other...she's afraid we are stealing...I about turned around and went back but I had someone else waiting for me...that is the kind of BULLSHIT I can do without

But these minorities were detained AND placed under arrest, all charges were later dropped (a sign of no wrong doing). How do you explain that? You can't arrest somebody because you THINK they're about to do something, and come to find out they didn't do anything at all.

people get detained ALL the damn time...not just in stores...and not just black people...charges get dropped for insufficient evidence...do you watch the news? yes it happens...and yes they get it wrong...but if they don't do their job and if there isn't a loss prevention team then the whole damn store might a well have a FREE sign on it because for retailers shoplifting is a very real issue...if profit margins are not met then the prices go up...the person that is honest ends up paying more for an item because someone else got it for a finger discount...

you should be outraged that people steal..period...end of story...without putting any color on it

Stop with the false equivalency. I will put dollars to donuts the vast majority of those being detained aren't white. Like I said I worked retail too and the focus was always young black kids even though the data showed it was more white males doing the stealing. Focus on the thread topic.

I have worked in a retail environment for 33 years...I probably know a bit more about loss prevention then your PT gig at the music store for a summer so don't get it twisted...the bottom line here is that theft is a very real issue...

so you as a young black kid were asked to watch the other young black kids...is it not profiling if it's black on black? WTF, why not call the police on all those old white men you caught stealing? money is money...you didn't because you never caught them...have no proof...you theory isn't worth a dollar but you enjoy those donuts

one more thing I want to address is the quota/goal...I am not aware of very many jobs that do not have a job description that includes some type of quota or goal...if a store does not set a goal for loss prevention on recovery or arrest then what the hell are those employees going to do all day other than watch the cameras in the lingerie dept...

their job is to reduce shrink...I would venture to say that none of you here go out to a store to steal merchandise...but by the way you feel about this topic I bet when you do go into a store one of the things that crosses your mind is "are they watching me" ...unfortunately if you do feel this way you probably spend a portion of your time in the store looking around to see of anyone is watching you or following you rather than concentrating on what you are wanting to buy...this behavior sets off a red flag...if you are looking for someone that is watching you then you are going to get exactly that...sad but true

You should be mindful and sensitive of your customers feelings.

Clearly you've never been followed around a store UPON ENTRANCE or talked to as if you're a thief because of your skin color. You just don't get 'it' Lippy.

clearly you have never been held accountable at inventory time for a shrink...people think when they walk in a store and steal something that it only hurts the company...THINK AGAIN! it hurts every person that works in that store...managers don't make bonus...get hurt at review time...don't get % raise increases...FT hours get cut...PT people get let go...new jobs are not created...

    trust me I get it...

So the solution is to alienate innocent people. You sure you actually like black men?

^This, and if she had had that experience she wouldn't be here trying to lecture us about not behaving suspiciously when we're out shopping. When you've been profiled and harassed by security before, you know exactly how to do your shopping quickly without giving people an excuse to harass you.

I mean seriously. That's some incredibly condescending shit for a woman who's supposedly into BM to spout. Like we're too fucking ignorant know what normal behavior in public is.

obviously you have never seen anyone harass store staff just begging them to follow them around and waste your time when you could be doing something else...pretend to shoplift just to fuck with security...I have absolutely no patience for that kind of crap

ever heard of the teenage white girl alert...trust me when I tell you that after school lets out many retail stores go on that band wagon too...quit trying to say that only black people get profiled..

Where in my post did I write anything about only black people being profiled? I responded to a post that was addressing the horseshit that you wrote about us getting stopped because we're so paranoid about being profiled that we walk around stores literally looking over our shoulders.

Are you fucking serious with that shit? You think that any rational thinking BM needs to be told that a person (irrespective of race, gender or age) who walks around a store constantly checking to see whether or not he's being followed would be extremely suspicious to the people working there?

then why are you so worried about it...if you are doing nothing wrong...not stealing...just minding your own business then you should be just fine...why lump yourself in with people that are having issues and take on their problems...you seem awfully paranoid

You must be shit stirring because now you're talking crazy. Why not tell us not to worry about stop and frisk if we are law abiding citizens. We all know they only harass criminals. While we're at it we shouldn't concern ourselves with innocent kids getting killed for nothing more than looking suspicious. After all none of us wear hoodies or have our music too loud. Smh

Her argument sounds awfully similar to the Zimmerman supporters now doesn't it? "Trayvon shouldn't of had a hoody on at night, that's suspicious."

Real talk. Know your place and everything is all good. Wonder if she ever met a bm let alone dated any

you are either part of the solution or part of the problem...at what point TDK do you become part of the solution...you are all talk and no action...you just like to argue your point until everyone here get sick of you and moves on to a new topic:D
