    Hi everyone,

I was wondering, is there any study on how the children of interracial
couples marry, specifally the offspring of black-white unions. Do they
overwhelmingly choose from one race or the other?

    Thanks,

    - GR -

As a child of an interracial couple, I can tell you that an interracial offspring will marry the race of girl he sees more often. This is not based on race ,of course but based on sheer probability.

    take care

Here's someone else's take on the matter:

Nice argument, but I'm not sure about how much the authority figure has to do with it. Kids do what THEY want to do anyways.

    Makes sense.

Interesting. ALL of these theories are points to consider.

I'm pregnant with a mixed race baby girl, and my black partner said he would prefer it if she married a black men (hopefully African) and if we ever has a son that he marries a white woman.

I think it's more to do with following in your parents footsteps.

    alot of mixed race people in hollywood goes towards white partners;
    Rashida Jones (Quincy Jones daughter)
    Mariah Carey
    Lenny Kravitz
    Jennifer Beals
    Derek Jeter
    Slash
Alicia Keys (Admitted her second boyfriend was white)
    etc.

Children of IR groups are no different than any other, they date whomever they come into contact with and have things in common, as you or I do

I think it has to do more with where you live. Almost every mixed person I know that is mixed with black is with a black partner. I am only going off what I see in my black community and friends that I have that are mixed. A mixed guy I work with who grew up in the white burbs is with a white woman. I have some mixed friends who don't even acknowledge their white heritage at all. So I think they lean towards what they know and who they are most comfortable with.

most mixed people I know on the east coast, in the south the pacific northwest and north are usually dating all different kinds of people from Latinos to Asians to white and black----have to get out of one mind set and travel around this country or at least outside of ones neighborhood

This is an interesting question. I wonder as my son is now a college student and regularly dates women from a multiracial and multiethnic background like himself.

Now that my son is a college student and dating, I will probably see this situation up close.

Just realized I’ve been redundant lol.

Very interesting question. I'd bet that like most the factors would be preference, and environment.

Both of my parents are black but I can tell you that growing up... I ALWAYS had an attraction to WW, but in my inner-city NYC neighborhood... No white people to be found. It was all minorities so all of my g/f's were from various ethnic groups. My first date with a white woman was in college.

So far my son has dated foreign-born girls or various Afro-Latin mixtures like himself. I’m unaware of any US-born or Anglophone ww.
My upbringing has always included me being attracted to ww, like you, and they were usually the women attracted to me.

I see mixed people dating other mixed people, i think Lenny and Lisa were probably the most famous mixed couple before their divorce. Then she was with Jason Momoa who is mixed from a German mother and polynesian father. Lisa's daughter only dated WM, i don't remember see Zoe with any black/biracial guy.

Biracial kids, at least the ones in my neck of the woods, don't seem to be too hung up on race. My own kids seem to prefer both on a dating & general association level other people of any biracial mix or majority black or brown "cultures" since they are easier to relate to.
