I see...not sure if he is in Nairobi? Mombasa? Can you speak the dialect at all?

If so, how about working at one of the main hotels (international) there in some clerical or administrative capacity, especially because they'd have tourist clientele...or any form of the hospitality industry,

or maybe look into something related to animals, working in a sanctuary or a game park, or a vet

or the national airline as a reservationist (this is the best i think) which revolves more around a universal set of booking codes in flight arrangements, (rather than dialect), if that makes sense....eg: WordSpan, Apollo, Sabre..(don't worry, their airline will train you)...and then you could parlay that into working at a travel agency that also specializes in vacations to and from western countries-- this is most ideal because you get to fly home for virtually free as does your husband (as often as you get vacations) when you work for an airline, and heavily discounted when you work for an agency.
Also you can use these skills world-wide for any airline or Agency.

You could also do wedding photography...perhaps expand your clientele from local and target instead the TOURISTS who visit Kenya.

Also, see what home or personable skills you possess that can work for u in your favor...do u bake really well where you could home-sell traditional Aussie cakes like pavlova, cheesecake, food the locals would be curious to try?

Just your speaking, reading and writing English alone is a huge bi-lingual asset no matter what path you enter.

Anyway, try this job site if you haven't already..it may help...Good luck. :D

I wonder if its an African country red-tape kind of thing, because my ex-SIL fell in love with an American, got engaged and he was in the country for good in like 6 months tops (they got married).

Thanks, but the biggest problem with all that is that they hire locals first (for obvious reasons...this is a poor country). They won't hire a foreigner unless there are no locals to do it, nor without a damn good reason. And I don't have any outstanding qualifications that qualify me for anything over there, that they don't have already. I don't speak Swahili, so that's a disadvantage too.
Ever actually been to Kenya? Not a whole lot of white people (none that I've ever seen) working there. LOL James lives in the country, a LOOONG way from Nairobi and even further from Mombasa.

Archangel...I don't know about citizenship, but getting a visa is VERY difficult. Some people get in quicker than others, but my sister has a good friend who's partner is American and it took 15mths for her visa to be granted.

Tarshi...They have specifically asked us not to contact them for general enquiries. But I will email them again and ask about it.

It's too depressing. :( I wish I had money, if I had money none of this would matter. Fucking money...it's evil. Fuck. That's my day ruined.

:( I'm so sorry Sin. (My only dealing with Kenya have been with their Embassy and a cpl of businesses for work-clients). I know the link I provided is popular for westerners wanting to work in Kenya, but as you said, you'd be living far from a major city so it's of no use.

Can't begin to imagine how difficult it is for you to be apart from the man you love for two years. Praying the emails you send gets the proper attention needed.

Little bit of good news, although not with the visa (and thanks so much for everyone's positivity and ideas...I do appreciate it :)). I got an interview for a much more stable and regular job! Yay! Hope it goes well and I actually get it. It's nothing special (just working at a supermarket) but it'll give me a nice regular income and I'll no longer have to worry like hell about money coming in. :) Still be poor, but not as poor. Hahahahahaha!

    Fingers crossed! :D

    So's..

I have my first interview for Arizona job on Monday by FaceTime.
I talked to the hiring manager a bit this morning by phone.

    *gulp*

This is huge. I'll be relieved if I'm actually hired but then I have to take huge steps and risks. And leave my home and some of the people I lurves the most.

But since newb boy came on board things at work have really gone down hill. He actually fought with me today about an order and then told me to do something I had already done on an other order to fix it. Only he told he how to do it wrong and I already had it almost finished by the time he opened his cake-hole to advise an actual certified tech on how to do a job she's been doing everyday for longer than him. And he's not even certified. And he's fucking things up left n right.

So the change, even though huge and scary and difficult to plan out, will be a much positive and needed one.

So tomorrow I start reading again. I've always been a skeptic when it comes to reading, but I'm hoping that reading will help reach a goal...to return to California. Hopefully some other members will tell me reading books has helped them reach independence & stayed independent.

Good luck to you in your situation too!
It's hard to be away from those you love and scary to be without steady money.
