No, dude. They don't. In the NFL at least, it is the other way around about 80% of the time.

And that's excepting the fact that if you got any significant amount of time in the NFL (after years of high school and college football), you've probably got brain damage, among MANY other things.

Mashburn/Robinson are exceptions (post-career athlete investments like theirs usually have a 1 in 30 success rate), and Mashburn gets plenty of publicity for this. Walker is also an exception (most of the losses don't involve nearly that much money since so few ever manage to make $100 million in a career).
The guys the media actually ignores are the ones with the little 3 year, $2 million contracts who want to live like they're making All-Pro level cash (big houses, vegas parties, dozen baby mamas, etc) and end up struggling after being out of the league for two or three years.
For every Michael Vick or Jamal Mashburn, there are literally half a dozen of these dudes you never hear about. These are the guys who never get the big, $40/50 Million contract. Few fans really know their names, and the media doesn't talk about them.

Speaking of the media, that's quite a backwards characterization you've got there about its role. The media does not promote the image of the bankrupt athlete-the media promotes the image of the wealthy, glamorous athlete with the baller lifestyle everyone wants to pretend they're living. THAT is the story that really sells. This is why most people, if asked casually, will assume that every NFL player (even the rookie minicamp invite who never went to training camp or sniffed a final roster) is a millionaire and/or set for life. We're conditioned that way.

Most people don't understand that pro athletes (NFL players in particular) are not as rich as they think.

Reggie Bush, judging from what I know of him, ought to be an exception to the rule. We won't know until at least a decade from now, though. He'll need to be cautious-women can easily be the fastest way to blow your cash.

It's a girl for Reggie Bush as NFL star's fiancée Lilit Avagyan
gives birth

Reggie Bush has become a first time father after his fiancée gave birth to a baby girl.

The 28-year-old NFL player and Lilit Avagyan welcomed their bundle of joy on Monday.

A spokesman for the pair confirmed the news to Us Weekly on Tuesday night, but didn't reveal a name.

Lilit gave birth to a beautiful baby girl,' the rep told the publication, adding that she weighed in at 8lbs, 9oz.




Reggie famously dated Kim on-off for several years before finally calling time on their relationship in March 2010.

The Detroit Lions running back has been dancing 25-year-old dancer Lilit for around 18 months.

During their relationship, Lilit has been compared to Kim - both are of Armenian heritage, have dark hair and voluptuous figures.

Bush confirmed Lilit was pregnant in October 2012, two months before 32-year-old Kim announced that she was pregnant with boyfriend Kanye West.

Speaking at the time of his happy announcement, Bush told Florida's Paul and Young Ron Morning Show. 'I have a little one on the way. We're pretty excited.'

Just last month Bush posted a blog on the Detroit Lions' website, opening up about his thoughts on becoming a first-time father.

'I'm very excited. Very excited about the baby. It's our first one and couldn't have come at a better time.

'It couldn't have come with a better person. Someone I really love and care about. It's great. It really worked out perfect.' :smt057

Bush said he planned to travel between his family in Los Angeles and work in Michigan.

He added: 'The baby will be in LA Well, [Avagyan] is going to be in LA because her family lives 15-20 minutes away from us.

'So she's going to need that support system while I'm here for a few days out of each week. Then I'll be home... I'm going to rack up a lot of sky miles, I know that.'
