i just think that we all have the right to believe in what we want to believe and there is no right or wrong in that. let people be. love who you want, treat everyone and everything with kindness, understanding and love.

i do not appreciate that my path is hellish etc. just because my beliefs do not mirror anothers

Here's hoping Tony Abbott don't gain any grounds in your Parliament, lest...you might have to take up arms and beat him with kissing kindness.

What you may call myths another may call fables nothing more than lessons we can apply to our own lives.
All science to me is a tool in order to bring awareness of God. Math is the language of the soul. Granted I have nothing that would satisfy you but fortunately for us both my beliefs don't require your satisfaction. The concept of God/grand creator isn't only survived the negative things you listed but its also the inspiration to many positive things. And what we can and can't reach is yet to be seen.
Like I've said before just because a person spoke of radio waves in the 17th century without any way of proving it didn't make it less real just on its way to being brought into our awareness.
The cosmology of the universe and the place of all sentient beings goes far beyond our current understanding but that's just my take on things I guess.

In other words, you liken hard world evidence to the human imagination. Nothing wrong with that. You're just exercising your ability to think. Sure, it's silly, but it's also something to spark the mind with fabled thoughts. You're only proving my point with this wasted post.

You want to rationalize the irrational, then please do. Just...try not to make yourself too off-beat, sonny boy.

You have a background in engineering and I do in applied mathematics so in essence we are both scientist I just tend to indulge in the theoretical you more so in the tangible. There's nothing wrong with that. Kind of like Einstein and Tessla (neither one of us is close to them but you get my point)
I just don't believe all things are within empirical reach at this very moment. Nature/Universe wastes nothing and I don't thing what you call irrational is without a purpose. Often times it leads us to the rational like Divinci's model of the first flying machine which had no practical application but served as a blueprint. There are new realms of science to be explored ones that might lead us to deeper understandings of our so called irrationalities. Evidence of the present does not equal evidence of the future. Like I said before 300 hundred years ago there wasn't any instrumentation to prove things electromagnetism or ultraviolet rays yet they were always a part of our existence. Its not far fetched to believe that a supreme/bigger conscience exists beyond the understanding of our current capabilities. The details may be wrong at present but it doesn't mean the concept is without merit

You've missed the point on the whole basis where I'm getting at. You can't survive on selective reasoning all the time if you want to rationalize your way of thinking. We're not scientists. You're a mathematician of sorts specializing in abstract theory and engineers are different from scientists as we look at problems and use methods to get then to work. There's a joke about it, in which I cannot regurgitate now, but let's just say it makes complete sense.

While it's true that we don't have all the answers yet, we still have the ability to figure them out as technology advances. All that is based on what's observable and what functions in the known universe (or more specific the world). That undergoes the scientific method. You can't really do that with supernatural ideas or concepts like God since they are more akin to fabrications of the mind. We know how ideas are made and constructed, but to say that they are a reality is utterly foolish since the imagination can only exists in the head...and maybe in movies with technology.

That being said, you're making a senseless argument. Can't compare tangible evidence with something based on a belief.

    GOP: Faith-based, anti-science

It seems like the more practical science-based individuals like Huntsman are no longer able to speak for the GOP. Now we're situated in a position where we have anti-intellectuals who'd rather emphasize more on irrational ideas, like the supernatural to color their ignorance.

Here is an interesting debate between an atheist and a Christian and watch carefully as the atheist deconstructs God. I'll also post on my other thread as well which deconstructs the omni-deity known as God.
