It's a shame those playing into the superiority complex fail to recognize this fact.

It's just sad to hear someone say Blacks treat African Immigrants worse than Whites, when most of Europe has treated (and some continue to treat) Africa just like Dominique Strauss-Kahn did his African maid.

Forget the odd insult, it's the politics that's the killer.

I guarantee you that the average idiot standing on a soapbox calling someone a "cotton picker" or a "dirty savage" isn't usually that same person trashing your resume. They won't have to bother with all the outward displays of nonsense.

When it comes to Blacks and African immigrants, that person won't be drawing lines of distinction, and the unemployment rate for employable Blacks in this country during times of economic struggle will always balloon to twice that of their employable White counterparts.

Ultimately though, I do believe plenty of darker skinned immigrants try to distance themselves from what they perceive to be the lower-class elements of American society in the hopes of avoiding the stigmas, stereotypes, and discrimination that haunt Black Americans.

Common ancestors go out the window fast once you hit the suburbs. :smile:

Once again, I don't think they did African checks at the door like they did with paper-bags, you know. Almost everyone behind the battle lines never had their names in the press.

By no means am I saying it was a significant number by any stretch, nor that African didn't benefit greatly by the movement, because they did, but since you benefited too and you have yet to disclose your African ancestry to us, we don't know where via the African diaspora your family hails from.

I must admit you make a good point in that for men it's rarely about looks primarily. Its about taking care of business as a man, a provider, hard worker, setting yourself up in life.

Yeah looks don't hurt but for men that is rarely one of the criteria you hear women mention as desirable in a man. If he is a respectful, responsible, go getter man then that seems more noteworthy to women. As long as the man isn't some fat, smelly, beer gut, alchoholic, wife beater, deadbeat loser.

We see average looking men with gorgeous women all the time, why because often he might be successful.

Besides no woman I imagine wants a man that takes up more time in the mirror than her.

Of course ladies would be more in tuned to answering that question when it comes to men.
