I hear criticism about Jamie Foxx acting all the time and yet he has had some great performances in movies.

I don't think he's a great actor but he's good enough to have good performances.

He's a lot better than some of these rappers that give some of the worst performances in movies.

Jamie Foxx get these great roles in films because he's popular and he must have one hell of a agent Jamie Foxx get's the role Don Cheadle should get.

Kerry Washington is reading for the part of Broom Hilda which is going to be a tough role. The character Broom Hilda is raped multiple times and beaten and just abused thru the whole script. I think some of the script is going to be rewritten before they start filming.

This movie will be to controversial if it follow the script has it is right now.

I realize you are Australian and your husband is African so I am respectful of your position but, what I speak of is more than just this movie.

No disrespect but, it may be a challenge for someone who is not a conscious, serious-minded Black American to understand my stance or questioning.

Even if the movie is not made at all, it does not change my position.

Of course it's a challenge to understand how people feel about things when you have not experienced them yourself. All I'm saying is people should reserve judgement for the end product. It's no good getting worked up over something that may not deserve it.
And that's true for all topics. At least wait until the trailer is released. Then, if it looks bad, bitch to your heart's content.

If y'all are so mad at how this movie might or might not turn out, why don't you call up ol' Rev. Al and organize a protest at the studio.

Say what?!?!? Foxx is an Oscar winning actor. He was great in Ray, Ali and especially Collateral (which is a favorite of mine)

Bro, Halley Berry is an Oscar winning “actress” too, but that does not make her a solid actress. I have pretty much seen Foxx’s movie. I will give it to him, he did a great impersonation of Ray (also knowing how to play the piano and be a semi singer helps), but the Oscar that year belongs to Don Cheadle who phenomenally told the story of Hotel Rwanda.
I will say it again Foxx does great job hosting radio, stand up, TV sitcom, but acting, meh.

I'll probably do the same and reserve judgement until I at least see a trailer or start reading in depth reviews. I'll admit, I've always wanted to see more movies about slaves fighting back or revolting in some way. Heck, especially stories that are not in historical context too, where slaves actually win or are able to fight back and get their freedom. While the description says what the slave masters will be, we don't know yet how Leonardo Di Caprio will be asked to portray him. So we can't assume he'll be likable. Just as we don't know how it may turn out, maybe Jamie Foxx's character will lead a bunch of slaves to freedom through fighting spaghetti western style and Leo's character will have a change of heart. I'm really not a Tarantino fan so this or any other movies he does usually aren't anything I'll go see in theaters, red box or netflix but if this turns out to be a redemptive movie or what if tale about slaves that fight for their freedom and get it, I might check this out.

    They won't mind.

Tarrentino can shit on these negroes and they'll beg for more.

i guess we'll see what happens.. I'm still tripping on some of the names/plot elements.. first the titular Django.. not a 'typical' slave name for sure.. interesting.. django's wife is 'broomhilda'? heh-heh..
and then there's the former dentist who becomes a bounty hunter.. neat.. I wonder does QT just go with the first thing that pops into his head? ;)
given the subject matter, i can see the studio trying to censor a lot of stuff.. if he's going to go with this film, it's got to be all-in with the action and mayhem, (and sex-- maybe Django gets it on with Candie's girl, and several others) and the revenge scenes must be hardcore with all the slavemasters and overseers getting their final reward..

Black women WERE exploited during slavery, maybe not in the way the movie is saying but it certaintly could have happened a similar way. I honestly would like to see this movie yea so it's in a fantasy like setting(whick is rare for movies about slavery) and for all intent and purpose mostly fiction. I understand how some of you may feel about the premise but shoot this is a FAR cry from movies I see nowadays(do you really want to see another Tyler Perry movie) or in the X-MEN FC(were the black guy dies first and is an afterthought)

As for casting Jaimie Foxx I don't see why some of you hate on him so much he is a pretty talented guy, yeah I think Idris is a little better but give the guy SOME credit here, he played in REAL GOOD movies and he is a funny guy that doesn't stick to one type of character.

I would have wanted Idris myself. I think he would have been better and a lot cheaper. it would had really boosted his career

Sometimes it is better to be partially proactive instead of totally reactive. Why wait until you see the finished product when the script had been floating out there for a couple of weeks?

I'm so glad you caught that. I was reading talk from some folks who thought Idris Elba was too "pretty" for the role of Django (I don't agree because I don't think Elba has those types of looks), but here you have matinee idol Leonardo being cast as the ruthless slave master. People who read the script saw his character as being older and fatter, but Tarantino chose a pretty boy major star to be the face of slavery. And, yes, since in films the best looking folks tend to be the good guys or at least the ones audiences are drawn to, this casting is very telling. Hey, a good-looking dude like that doesn't rape women because they would want to sleep with him anyhow. That is the message that is being sent at the subconcious level. Meanwhile people were clamoring for non-desirable types like Chris Tucker and the guy who plays Omar on "The Wire" to be Django. Get the fuck out of here.

Foxx is a good choice, as good if not better than Elba. I haven't been impressed with anything Elba has done apart from The Wire. Will Smith has typecasted himself into PG-13, non-threatening Negro roles and would therefore not be an ideal choice. My ideal choice is Don Cheadle, but keep in mind that the market and potential box office take are frequently behind casting decisions. Cheadle is a superior talent than Foxx, Elba, or Smith, but not a money maker on opening weekend.

The biggest star in terms of box office potential is Leonardo Caprio, an L.A.-bred pretty boy with a babyface who dates foreign supermodels, rolls a Prius, and regularly advocates for progressive causes. Unless there is heavy makeup involved, I don't envision him as the best choice to play a brutal slave master in the antebellum South.

All that said, I expect the film to an excellent pseudo-historical revenge fantasy along the lines of Inglorious Basterds, because no one does dialogue like QT.
