College Football's Charlie and Victoria Strong

O.K. These two are only celebrities in Louisville and football circles, LOL. He is the Head Football Coach for the University of Louisville Charlie Strong and the woman he is with is his beautiful wife Victoria.


In interviews he speaks of his love for his wife, Victoria and their two daughters, Hallie and Hope. Coach Strong and his wife Victoria have been the subjects of controversy, many believe the reason he was not offered a head coaching position within in the SEC conference is due to the couples’ interracial marriage."Everybody always said I didn’t get that job because my wife is white, 'I love Victoria, and while I felt our relationship may become an issue in my professional career, it didn’t matter. You don’t choose who you fall in love with.”

Strong isn’t the only one. It has been reported that one of the reasons Buffalo coach Turner Gill didn’t get the job at Auburn is because his wife is white. The job went to Iowa State coach Gene Chizik even though Gill seemed to have the more impressive head-coaching credentials. On ESPN’s "Outside The Lines," reporter Mark Schlabach said two SEC coaches told him that because Gill is married to a white woman there was no way he was going to get the Auburn job.

But for U of L Athletic Director Tom Jurich, who hired Strong, interracial marriage and race clearly was not a hindrance. Nor has it been for this community, which the coach Strong says “has embraced us (he and his family) and taken us in.”

The reactions of fans have been almost unanimously positive. This off season 600 women came to his Women's Football Clinic that is triple the old numbers. The team is on the right track on the field and in the classroom now, thanks to his leadership.
