The problem with people that rate rappers is... theyre all using different criteria. lyrics flow swag records sold exposure crossover appeal quality of production how well it fits in a club
and word play fixed. (cuz truth be known Eminem always looks just like any other dumpy white dude) that's an idea though.......we should have a wwBBm form Youtube, rap battle. Pick your champion and match song for song (not you personally....in general)
Agreed on the correction. To illustrate my point. Would Eminem be generally admired as the greatest rapper like Tupac if he used Tupac's lines? I think not. Im with you, Eminem is underrated. Even in a country that usually puts the "great White Hope" on a pedestal. I.E. Elvis who was the Eminem of his day.
I always admired Em's irreverence and technical abilities, but his voice...man, his voice...just like Jay-Z, it's his achilles heel. It really depends on their beats and how they approach the track. Rappers of the past had crisp vocals, impeccable breath control, and put more emphasis on tone. Treach was the best example IMO.
I don't think neither Tupac nor Biggie where Lyrically that Superior. What they were though were master story tellers. You could close your eyes and pop on damn near any jam and see the entire story they were painting. That is what made these cats have such an impact on the rap game and the culture.
M can hold his own but he aint pac or biggie. Dre aint stupid he saw talent and marketed the fuck outta that boy, as the jews used to do to lots of incarcerated blk jazz and blue singers.
I disagree, some of the best artsit had drawl, or lips, from hip hop past. Think Cool G Rap (dude was murder), or Mase....lazy flow, or EPMD, Hell....Method Man (one of my favs) with is soup slurpin' flow, or Mystical...Too Short, Scare Face, Bushwick Bill......MC Hammer for that matter. And Em is nothing short of clear....you might not be able to catch up to his flow but you can understand clearly every word.... ...I have to disagree.
Tupac is the greatest rapper ever, by great what I mean is he has had the biggest impact on hip hop. Biggie on the other hand was the better rapper... Eminem fell the fuck off A LONG ASS TIME AGO, his new music is pure ass to me.... The thing though with Pac and Biggie is they get A LOT of hype because of them dying so young in their career. You have rappers out there like Big L who was a lyrical beast, yet he doesnt get as much credit because he has a very small catalogue. On the other hand, he does get a boost due to "death hype". Jay-Z gets way too much credit, he is a known biter.
lol at Eminem being the greatest. Any rapper with a CD like Relapse is already out of the running, and Recovery wasn't good either. Tupac and Biggie aren't the best either.
I think Big L is forever a part of rap legend. Eminem fell off? If anything he has solidified his place as hip hop royalty if still not reaching the pinnacle of hip hop greatness. I agree with you about Jay Z.
What about LL Cool J, Kool Moe Dee,.....either of these cats on that level. And keep in mind Moe Dee only put you four ranked albums. Recovery and Relapse were filler albums and still had some of the best releases (not talking about record sales) and Recovery is DAMN SICK. Cinderella man "Instant classic" ...and I disagree about Pac and Biggie. When you talk about 'GREATEST' is not just about skill, lyric, or flow, its also about who had the biggest impact on the art and genre. And both Pac and Biggie had a profound impact on hip hop.
