Why do the Superbowl champs or Nba champs refer to themselves as "World champs"???? lol that shit really makes no sense, since these teams dont play against the world (I know the Nba has Toronto etc. , but still it would make more sense to call the Nba champs the North American champs vs calling them the World champs).

It is justifiable to say that the best basketball and (American) football players in the world play for the NBA and NFL, respectively. Given that the NBA and MLB attracts elite athletic talent from all four corners, the NBA Finals or World Series does constitute the best in the world.
With the exception of that 04 Olympic team the US constantly embarasses teams from other countries making them the best in the world. When you have teams losing by 40 to 50 pts you're more than allowed to call yourself the best in the world.
I had a similar conversation on FB when I pointed out the QB for the Steelers was accused of rape and the only thing that happened was he had to sit out 4 games and when Vick was accused his ass was out entirely until the matter was resolved.
