I'll always say this...

Churches are a waste of valued time and consideration. You can still pray to your God in the comfort of your home and not waste precious time driving or walking to a building or institution, when you could do all that at home and have time to do the things you need to do. Furthermore, it's definitely a waste to give money and it's a shame that Churches are tax-free when, in many ways, it's also a business.

 

the tithe isnt for the church, its to God. and it has to go the church in which you are a member or attender.

 

Organize religion is the scorn of the world. It's responsible for much of the misery we have seen in history. When I meditate (pray) in the early mornings and evenings I do so with the thought that the Lord is with me at that instant. The Lord is truly my shepherd and he guides me on a very personal level. It's that focused personal connection that is so vital to my existence. Not mere humans who try to use materialistic enticements to feed their own egos. I do not need them.

 

I call Mega Churches:
"Six Flags over Jesus"

These big time pastors love to pull out the verses about tithing in order to pressure the worshippers to line the pastors' wallets. All the money comes out of people's pockets and they have nothing to show for it except an expensive church building.

 

Megachurches and celebrity pastors have borrowed mainly two ideas from the entertainment industry: the sports stadium and popular music stardom. Christianity in America is like most things under our aggressive model of capitalism, where even religion has been commodified and sold in the marketplace like Pepsi or Toyota.

Edit: Remember what started the Protestant Reformation? Martin Luther felt disillusioned with the Catholic church, because it was selling indulgences (forgiveness) to the laity. Churches have always found a way to get over on the faithful.
