Yeah I hear you, mate. Sometimes we say shit on blogs we don't always mean, or it comes off wrong, but the gist is what matters. I've sparred with a few in my time on a politics board I belong to, but they are like my fam. End of the day it's "whats for e-dinner and who's cookin?' I'm from Australia, but of Mediterranean descent.
Um, pack your suitcase with your favorite jammies and mom's pic in a frame cause you ain't coming home if you go.
You're right. Some words can seem condescending when written. My mistake - it wasn't my intention. I just didn't want our disagreement to escalate. It wasn't successful. Mea culpa...
I like the way you responded, that is why I am on this website to read statements like yours. Thank you
In the Northeast. Tri-State area. Wondering why you called Australia a racist country. Are you referring to its Aborigine history, or its current state?
I assume it is the White Australia policy that intentionally restricted "non-white" immigration to Australia from 1901 to 1973. Australian government policy from earlier years has been claimed to be the original impetus for the apartheid system in South Africa. Of course that is the past just as our segregation or apartheid system is the past but, attitudes die hard here and people assume the same about Australia.
I think there is racism in every country but I know I spend some time in Perth, Darwin, and Sydney... ....I had probably the most fun in Darwin, and I don't know if Australians are racist or not but I know THEY LOVE BRUTHAZ! I got some stoooooories woo.
It's true! You know, I've been thinking on this some lately. I was thinking how the Aboriginal people I know completely idolize black Americans, which I imagine stems from feeling a kinship of sorts.. and the more I thought about it, I came to the conclusion that Australians in general really idolize black Americans. Which is why I guess I get so confused/shocked about talk of black/white relations in America being so poor, because I'm so used to black American people being viewed in such a positive light...
I meant modern Australia. I read as recently as the 1990s black people were refered to as niggers in parliment. But I have to say you Whikle and Tarshi have me sold on going there. How's the climate during january february or March. I might treat myself for my bday.
