Its the same shit back and forth, its just with those black women they
want to take it to another level with the biasness. A brotha says that
and he is wrong by everybody's eyes. But a sista say something about
brothas being no good is a good excuse for some reason. But it is like
I said before too many black men are so afraid of sistas now days especially the ones in the entertainment industry that they cant see whats right and whats wrong.

    Generalizations

Guys, I think you dilute the strength of your arguments by engaging in some sweeping generalizations, particularly about black women and why they might not like the cover.

I am a black woman who is in favor of any consenting adults being with whomever makes them happy. Indeed, one of my favorite celebrity couples is Seal and Heidi Klum. They just look so right together.

I'm not bitter or lacking in self esteem. I'm not jealous of white women who date black men. Although I've never dated non-black men it's not been for lack of opportunities. I've been hit on by black, white, non-white Latino and Asian men despite the fact that I live in one of the reddest of the red states in the Deep South.

I don't have a huge ego but I do have sufficient feelings of self-worth that I believe that any man of any color that doesn't want me for superficial reasons, doesn't deserve me.

Despite this, I do think the choice of putting Reggie Bush on the cover of a magazine geared towards black women in an issue on black love relationships was odd.

Reggie and Kim are so high profile that anyone who is even remotely hip to pop culture knows about them as a couple. So when we see Reggie on the cover of a magazine that talks about black love relationships, it doesn't quite fit. I think of him as being a man who is attracted to non-black women for whatever reasons. And god bless him.

He would have been perfect for a cover celebrating black men in general. But that wasn't what this was about.

As to the assertion that NO black men would object to Tatiana Ali or Halle Berry on the cover of a black man's magazine in an issue celebrating black love relationships, I strongly disagree. Some black men would object because they don't like seeing beautiful black women with white men and others would object for the same reason that some black women object to Reggie's cover, because when they think of these folks' personal lives, they think of cute IR couples, not cute black couples.

By the way, Halle catches horrible crap for her choice of a boyfriend, but she isn't seen as preferring white guys, having had two black hubbys in the past. Not that preferring white would mean a hatred of black men.

While I'm in total agreement that being sexually attracted to people of other races DOES NOT mean that you are self-hating, lets be honest about something.

We ALL know black people WHO ARE self-hating. They don't think of white people as just people who are no better or worse than anyone else. They buy the theory that the white man or woman's ice is colder. They constantly run down all black people collectively when compared to all white people collectively. They have internalized racism to such a degree that they detest who they are and they will do anything to get away from what they hate.

I feel sorry for the non-black people unfortunate enough to get involved with these types because they aren't wanted for what is in their hearts or heads, they are wanted because they aren't black.

People like these are the real obstacles to happy blending.

Are you kidding me? They still haven't forgiven Halle Berry for that scene with Billy Bob Thorton. :smt102 She's officially 'off the list' now that she's with a white man.

Despite being half white (she doesn't look it) she has been the prototype for the Black women since the early 90s. Not even Beyonce can take her place.

    ^^^for the old school lol.

When people think of Halle and Aisha though, their significant others don't come to mind though. Perhaps its because they're women.

Again, because they're women, people don't think of whom they are dating are married to. Its just the men. When I see or think of Kerry Washington I think of those scenes from "I Think I Love My Wife" :prayer: Not her apparent like for white boys.

Kerry Washington said on the Tom Joyner Morning show that she knew people thought she liked white guys exclusively, but that this was not the case. She likes all types of men for all kinds of reasons. She wasn't defensive about the perception people had about her. In fact, she had a great sense of humor about it.

Isn't that perception due to the fact that she's had so many white leading men?

Instead of demonizing the photo, BW should’ve just looked at it as a goal. Conventional wisdom would be: “perhaps if I were to do what Kim Kardashian is doing, then maybe I can get a man like Reggie Bush. Let me go ahead and take some plays out of her playbook.”

    Makes sense.:smt102

It's an avalanche of BW on here of late. I wonder if they're all the same person. It's good though. They can get our views straight no chaser.

lippy finds it interesting that this is supposed to be the big relationship issue and that is why bw find having reggie on the cover so disturbing...why are they not upset about:

SECRET SEX VACATIONS - if the magazine issue is all about black love and relationships then why not a scandal about sex vacations?

GOING FROM BROKE TO BLESSED - if lippy were a bw i would be outraged that the magazine was basically saying that most bw are broke ass women that need to get their act together financially

do i need to go on...pick your battles ladies...especially if you are going to come here and defend yourselves on stupid shit:smt018

I'm sorry, it doesn't work like that, while there might have been some Black men (and women) upset by her role in that movie and the fact she won an oscar for it (to put it better, that the AA''s would give her and Denzel awards for "negative" roles), if Halle were to dump her model baby daddy, do you honestly think Black men would stay away?

If she were put on a Black mens magazine, we would be to busy looking at the pictures to even bother to get upset like the essence readers did over Reggie. Fine is fine, and going with a White man doesn't make an attractive Black woman any less so, and I say this for the Black men who only/mostly go with with Black women. Plus, they know Halle was with Black men for years, I doubt Essence readers care about the prior relationships of the Black men who are now with White Women. No BM here should be crazy enough to care and they realize she is half White anyway.

Black men's magazines have non Black women on the cover all the time and Men's magazines in general don't really focus on love and monogamy. The celebration of "Black love" and unfaithful endogamy seems to be only attractive to Black women, who out marry less than any group.

I think we can all agree that Essence knew having Reggie Bush on the cover would stir up controversy.

P.S I had no idea Tatiana Ali was with a white man, I would be too busy looking at her pics to she if she still looked good to worry about who she was with.

ww don't really pay much attention to who celebrity and athletes date either...if you go to the hot black men thread...or the abs thread...we are just admiring their gorgeous bodies...no where in any of those threads would you see a ww say...oooooooo i hear he dates bw...or he is married to a bw why did you post him...never even enters my mind:smt102and if he was dating or married to a bw...we would probably respond with nothing more than...damn she is one lucky woman!

I think it's safe to say the Black men who have been with Kim K were with her, not because they hated themselves, but because she's pretty and has a phat ass. Most Black men wouldn't kick her out of bed, it has everything to do with being a man, not self hate.

Men are loyal to their penis, not to say they can't be faithful to one woman (monogamous) or their race (endogamous) of women, but "one Race of Women don't stop no show".

Men will always seek multiple options no matter the time or social dynamic. Black men are too busy worried about their own love life to give a hoot about who Halle Berry or Kerry Washington are with; They ain't with us and there's more were that came from!!!! If a White dude can pull a hot Black woman, big up to him, just like BM are giving big ups to Reggie.

This is why Black men like Kim, it has nothing to do with self-hate.

I think Kim Kardashian is a beautiful woman and despite the fact that I'm usually annoyed with people who are famous for being famous, she seems like a genuinely sweet person.

That being said, she doesn't have some monopoly on charm, beauty or allure. And neither I nor any of the black women I know envy anything she has except perhaps her money. None of my friends are angry or territorial. None of us are lacking for high quality male companionship. We don't need fixing.

Guys, why do you call out people who make unfair assumptions about your taste in women when you make sweeping assumptions about black women yourselves?

Yes, there are stupid black people who try to tell others who to love or want. But if these are the only people you encounter, you need to get out more.
