One thing I took away from my trip is how totally different Americans and Australians are. Whenever anyone here says "oh, we're becoming too Americanised" I will just laugh in their face now. Nothing could be further from the truth, IMO. I'm very happy for you JABL. Sounds like quite an adventure. I am considering looking at moving next year - I see no reason to stay here, and the USA looks like fun for a while. Since my greencard hasn't come in the mail yet (damned lottery), I am looking at the E3 Visa...Otherwise, will just head to the UK, or perhaps Canada. Maybe somewhere else, who knows what the future holds. San Diego is a lot like Brisbane, IMO...more than any other city I saw while I was there. I will do some research about the reef...I'm also going to hit the Daintree, and if I get long enough, head up to Atherton. Beautiful part of the world (in winter). Thankfully I don't get sea sick. Keep us up to date on how you settle in, JABL...I do know there's a Facebook group for Aussies in LA. There are also groups for Aussies in America and some other things. I hope you can settle in better soon. I am shocked!! Are you telling me Qld Health didn't keep adequate records!?! hahahaha.
No, and I used to work there!! So to be honest, it is no surprise at all, damn QH!! You are so right, I tell everyone who'll listen - you hear people say often that Oz is like America only on a smaller scale. That couldn't be further from the truth. The differences are enormous!! Thanks for the info on the FB groups, I am gonna check those out now... I have yet to meet another Aussie here. Oh, and, I highly recommend a visit to the daintree/cape tribulation
Last week I decided to give up simple sugars (i.e. soda) for 3 months. Can't lose weight without making drastic changes and all that. So, a guy comes back from medical leave today and brings with him cheesecake. ACK!! 2 wonderful looking cheesecakes were sitting on a table not far from my desk all day and I didn't have any. YAY me!! LOL!!
Agreed. It is pure evil. Which is why things made with it taste so good. Man, I'm going to be bored with water in no time. I need to start adding fruit or a cucumber slice to it for flavor.
Well, so my schedules r great, I work only 2 afternoons a week, the other das I come home at 2 so that's good. The place kind of sucks, I have to share an office with the older social worker (kind of the boss) and we have 1 phone for both. University didn't prepare me on most of things I'll have to do. There's a lot of burocracy that scares me. I can't do nothing. Fortunately the co-worker that was with me to day explained things and helped me. I'm so scared to do the wrong things, really. Btw the first days I won't do much. I'll just observe and try to learn. Thanks for asking
Thanks! That's what I'm hoping. :smt023 Though I had to give up sugars whilst I was pregnant and I counted the days until I could drink a Mountain Dew again. LOL. I can't let that happen again.
Bookie, Add lemmon slices. It makes it taste good if you get bored with water but it also helps to detox your liver. Stick with it, you will feel great. I have cut out sugar and refined flour from my diet. I feel so much better and have more energy.
don't worry about the burocracy and other things that scare you. it all will come with the experience. anyway, I'm so glad for you!
I may become a victim of these here hard times, I may be losing my job soon. My department of the job I work it letting people go, and my head maybe next on the chopping block.
