Some people just can't stand the idea of a black man with a white woman. It's a shame that that could be the reason. If the guy's qualified and is a good coach and isn't a criminal, that's all that should matter.

Charles Strong should consider filing charges if he can prove discrimination. There's just too much of this going around.

Holcomb v. Iona College (2nd Cir.)
    Facts of the Case
The case is Holcomb v. Iona College, decided on April 1. Holcomb was a basketball coach at Iona College in New York. He claimed that a college official, Brennan, tried to prevent Holcom's wife, who was Black, from attending public alumni functions , and that Brennan had made racially derogatory comments about some of the Black players.
Another college official, Petriccone, also made offensive racial comments about Black players in the basketball program. As the Second Circuit put it, "Colleagues at Iona testified to Petriccione’s record of what might, charitably, be called racial insensitivity. Egregiously in this respect, Petriccione is said to have referred to a Nigerian employee at the Alumni Giving Office as a 'jungle bunny' and an 'African princess.' When that member of staff applied to his office for the position of Assistant Director of Annual Giving, he remarked: '[W]hat does she think she is coming from a hut in Africa and thinking she could apply for this job?'”
In addition, when Petriccione found out that Holcomb was marrying an African-American woman, he allegedly made a comment so offensive comments that it won't be posted here.
Iona College eventually fired Holcomb, explaining that his termination had to do with his poor job performance. After the district court granted summary judgment to the college, the Second Circuit remanded on appeal.
    The Court's Decision
The court's discussion set forth the associational-discrimination analysis. Here is the play-by-play:
    1. Protected Class. The Court held that Holcomb was a member of a "protected class" under Title VII. Although Holcomb was not Black, his wife was, and there was evidence that his interracial marriage was the reason for his termination.
    2. Interracial Association. The Court reasoned that, "where an employee is subjected to an adverse action because an employer disapproves of interracial association, the employee suffers discrimination because of the employee’s own race." All the district judges in this circuit to consider the question, including the district court in this case, have reached that conclusion."
    3. Pretext Evidence. As noted above, there was plenty of evidence from which the Court could conclude that the reasons given for Holcomb's termination were a mere pretext for race-based discrimination. Another piece of evidence to support Holcomb's claim was that O'Driscoll, the white staff member who replaced Holcomb, was the only white member of the staff without a Black girlfriend or wife.
    Recap
This decision from the Second Circuit does not necessarily address a novel issue of law. Associational discrimination had previously been addressed by district courts within the Circuit. But the clarity of the Court's opinion in Holcomb very clearly sets the groundwork for similar future claims.

I did say that people can hire whoever they want to, and I believe that, but that doesn't mean that I have to like it. It just means that they have the right to do that.

It's sad but unfortunately, it's not uncommon. He's looking for a job in the SEC, which is controlled by rich, Southern white males - a group not exactly known for their high tolerance levels.

I hope he finds a job one day and I wish him and his wife all the best.

So, your heart bleeds for a black guy who's a victim of systematic discrimination...when he is married to a white woman.

But when regular, everyday black people who are not in interracial relationships talk about suffering from systematic racism and discrimination, they are "crying about race," spewing victimology rhetoric, and wallowing in a sense of "victimhood."

I believe it was you...fuck it!...I know it was you who said that "People should be allowed to associate with whoever they want to. People have the right to be discriminatory..."

So why are you even commenting or speaking up for a black guy who happens to be a victim of systematic discrimination? Why arent you taking a stance with all those southern universities who are discriminating against Charlie Strong because he's married to a white women?

    You are such a phony!

Yes I believe that people should be allowed to pick and choose who they want, but that doesn't mean that I have to like it. I dislike racists, skinheads, KKK, Nazis, and all those idiots. But that doesn't mean they should be banned because of their views. It is sad when someone is denied an opportunity because of their color, gender, sexual orientation or their personal life

What is your solution to this? Do you want to force universities to hire someone? How would you do it?

And, by the way, FUCK YOU! You don't know shit about me! I know I'm not phony at all. If you have to resort to attacking me because of my views, then go to hell!

    :p

As for the evidence needed, many people that commit acts of racism aren't completely stupid, so they avoid being outright wit' it. It gets harder and harder to prove what you KNOW, is some dirty deeds.

I read this story on sportsline.com and then I read some of the comments that were made and the threads created and let me say that there are so many idiots out there that just dont get it.

    http://www.sportsline.com/collegefootball/story/11229865

The most common things they were saying is that he is playing the race card, he should be happy being where he is making 400k as the DC of Florida and this is the funniest that I read that if he wanted a head coaching job he should head to JUCO or High School and get experience which is the stupidest thing I have ever heard.

The fact is that these ADs can give all the standard explanations that they want. He is getting passed over for some reason and I cant believe that it is his resume.

Age 48 - Asst Head Coach/DC/LB Coach @ Florida since 2002, DC 1999-2001, Defense 2 years ago basically won Florida the National championship, leads the country in forced TO over the last 4 years, Excellent recruiter (2 first round NFL picks 2 years ago, another last year, and quit possibly another this year if brandon spikes leaves), from what has been reported he has a personality akin to Tony Dungy and Lovie Smith. I total of 21 years of coaching experience 24 if you count the years as a GA.

Now you compare this to the 3 new coaches in the SEC next year.

    1) Dan Mullen (Miss St) age 36 -Urban Meyers OFF Cood last 4 years, prior to that Urban Meyes QB coach @ Utah and Bowling Green. Now this is an understandable hire because Miss St has been one of the worst offensive teams in the country and really didnt want another defensive coach.

    2)Gene Chizik (Aub) age 47 - 5-19 HC ISU, CO DC @ tex 05-06, DC aub 02-04

    3)Lane Kiffin (Tenn) age 33 - 5-15 HC Oakland, 01-07 OC USC

Now I dont believe that any school should hire anyone based on the color of their skin but on the merit of their work, and he has been one of the top coaches in the country for the last 10 years. The boosters at these universities control who coaches and who doesnt. Until they are colorblind then this will continue to happen.

I didnt say white supremacists should be kicked out of the country either, (although I wouldnt object to it,) but sometimes those guys are the ones pulling the strings behind the scenes. What you are seeing is a clear example of that, but there are other instances in the "real world" where the same thing happens. Which is why affirmative action is needed in the real world. However, AA is not the answer in this case.
The solution is acountability. Big-time college football is a huge cash cow, and if a university president and athletic director want to hire a nondeserving, unqualified white candidate (or any coach) over a much more qualified (minority) candidate because of their race? Fine! But if that hire turns out to be a bust, they both should pay for their mistake with their job! As it stands now, they are getting a free pass for their racist ways.
(any now to the fun part)

I could exchange pointless, "fuck you's" with you, but that wouldnt be any fun. Your right. I dont know you, but I do know that from your post I can call you a phony because of the hypocrisy of said post. Or maybe I should have called you a hypocrite instead?

Either way, I had long ago grown tired of your conservative crap and decided to ignore it. But imagine my suprise when you contradict yourself when its white skin (thru relation) that is discriminated against. You completely forgot your past "people have the right to be discriminatory" idiocy and get ignorant when I call you out on how you contradicted yourself. I didnt make you say something so stupid, so why get mad at me?

...and by the way, that wasnt an attack. That was just a love tap. :smt062 If I attack you, believe me, you will know it!

It's the college football's (especially with what I refer to as the $EC's) screwed up policy of the 'good ol' boys' network is why very few blacks get hired as head coaches, although I do get whomever the candidates are married play a part, which it shouldn't be. Strong would be better served coaching in the NFL, he would have a much better chance of landing a head coaching job.

Which leads me to this: being a 49ers fan, which I have been since I lived in California, I believe Mike Singletary, the new permanent head coach, is married to a white woman and has 7 kids. Of course, I heard about Lovie Smith, and Herman Edwards (as of when I post this, is still the Chiefs coach). I do realize there are some closed-minded and dumb assholes out there sending hate mail to head coaching candidates who happen of be of color, but I feel that is discouraged and not tolerated by the NFL far more so than in college ball. Whatever the plan is to improve on the record down the road and how the candidates react to playes should be key in landing coaching jobs, not whomever they are married to, which is no wonder some football team continue to suck.

Browsing through some old post and came across this and thought that I would bring it up that Coach Strong might finally be getting a much deserved and long awaited shot at being the face of a program. It is being reported that Strong is the leading candidate for the Head Coaching Position at Louisville. So it looks like there maybe another black HC in D1A football and at a BCS school.
