That one's great too—it's so cute! I need to add that one to my collection. I knew I had more saved someplace that I wanted to share with Webbie, and it just dawned on me that I couldn't find them because they're probably saved on my old laptop. I'll try to drag out the old dinosaur to see what I can find on it this weekend.
Yep, and I'm so glad he did. It was one of my faves, and I was sad when it was gone.
I came across a copy of a database backup of the old forum from 2008 and asked a local LLM if it could search the DB and find a smiley that fits the description of "black and white hug smiley."
It searched and responded: "I found a promising match named "freehug" Smiley code
in /images/smilies/freehug.gif"So I searched some old drives for freehug.gif and found it in a copy of the old forum from 2008. I also found an even older copy of WWBM from 1999-2001—the first forum.
The folder has about 180 mostly animated smilies. I'll have to sort through them.
The original site that had these gifs daweb.org is no longer, but it seems there is a collection "Something Awful Smilies" at https://github.com/tempusthales/sa_smilies/tree/main that states:
"Each pack contains 30 smilies, so if you wanted to add all 1360 Smilies you need to do this 40 times.
"
