I was just wondering what the feelings are about AI (Chatboxes, Art generators, Video makers, Music makers, etc). Some people seem to think it will drive us all out of work, make our kids dumber, and destroy art, but some people see the potential in the barriers between ideas and technical know-how breaking down, which could level the playing field.

The key word is potential. The various individuals who own & develop the tech aren't currently creating it with the potential to better society as a whole. None of the technology being developed by the majority of American owned corporations are creating anything to advance society. AI won't drive us out of work or make us dumber or destroy art. People who become overly dependent on AI and technology overall will doom themselves by their own laziness & lack of creativity or talent.

I'm in software engineering and it's definitely taking jobs. The irony of software engineers engineering themselves out of a job! So far, it's mostly junior engineers being impacted because the tech can not a lot of what they do. So whereas my company would usually recruit about a dozen interns every summer, there weren't any this year because they would be nothing for them to do. Higher up, it's become an arms race because no one has a distinct advantage. I can improve my throughput by 10x, but so can the engineers in the competing companies.

I find myself really enjoying AI as a tool for bringing my ideas to life, For people like me , who are not good artists but have good ideas, it is very helpful. However, my sister and her co-workers have been told their company is implementing AI to check their work for errors, and my sister thinks it's a slippery slope to replacing their jobs. She is retiring soon, so it isn't a big deal to her, but all the young people she works with are nervous.

Knowledge/education. Technology. Money. These are all tools. All individuals who have some form of power & influence not only have access to these tools but try to limit access to it for everyone else in order to maintain their power & influence. Even amongst themselves. One percenters all have the Highlander mentality. There can be only one and they all individually believe they are the one.

I believe AI is not only a slippery slope however I also view it as a flawed man-made creation that will eventually lead to a future similar to SkyNet. Mankind as a whole will only have itself to blame.

Will we witness this during our lifetime? Who knows?
