The only real issues I have with it is the black hair dye is way too obvious and, it overall, looks more like a big budget TV show than a big budget film. But, I really dig the hopeful tone. The world needs that, right now.

 

HBO Renews Dune: Prophecy



“Dune: Prophecy” has officially been renewed for a second season at HBO.

This announcement was made during a virtual press event on Thursday, just days before the Season 1 finale, which airs on Sunday, December 22.

Set over 10,000 years before Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune" films, this prequel series explores the beginnings of the Bene Gesserit—an enigmatic group of formidable witches who subtly shape the politics of Arrakis.

Drawing from the novel “Sisterhood of Dune” by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson, the series centers around Valya Harkonnen (played by Emily Watson), the leader of the Bene Gesserit Sisterhood, and Tula Harkonnen (Olivia Williams), as they join forces against threats to humanity.

That explains one comment I saw complaining about how Superman must never be beaten, bruised or cut. I reminded him that those rules don't apply if the villain is from Krypton. And since that comment? Crickets…

 

As with the Zack Snyder take, Perry White will be Black. That's more than enough for the throwback contingent to label something as "woke". Also the fact Mr. Terrific will be featured in the movie, also an issue with these particular individuals.

 

You’re right. It doesn’t take much for those hurt feelings to surface.

The show is excellent in my humble opinion.

 

I think that may be the point. Gunn is all in about leaning into the comic nostalgia of Superman, so he probably doesn't want you to feel like you are watching a big budget movie. He wants you to feel like you are watching a live action comic book.

 

ABSOLUTE DC TRINITY

 

Makes sense. Quite a few shows build on or reference the nostalgia of their heyday.

 

The fact that Gunn's take on the DCU is an already established "universe" and leaning directly into elements straight from the comics (Krypto, the classic Superman with trunks, the appearance of other active superheroes) he's going a totally different route from both the MCU & the previous Snyderverse DCEU take. He's not shying away from the fantasy & sometimes "unrealistic" nature of comic books. He's making that the spine for this universe from what I'm starting to pick up on.

 

I don't know about anyone else but I got a CW DCEU Feel to this direction from the trailer I seen.
Yeah, I'm interested in how this turns out.

 

The CW DC shows were good when they did lean into the more comic book side of things. When they leaned more into the realism & drama side of things, that's when shit started to go downhill because they tried to cater to an audience that wanted the realism & drama over the adventures & storytelling.

 

Is this just a function of DC struggling to keep up with the MCU and measuring themselves by that standard? If so, I don't think they should because the MCU has captured the blockbuster/hardcore action/mature side of things, and DC will forever be playing catch up if that's the plan. Your thoughts?

 

I don't think they are trying to play catch up because that was what the Snyderverse attempt was & why it failed.

I think Gunn is doing what DC/Warner Brothers should have done in the first place : Tell stories with their characters. Sticking more closer to comic book elements rather than being more realistic sets them apart from the MCU since the realistic formula has been the formula for most superhero/comic book related live action moves & TV shows for almost the last 2 decades.
