Fair enough. I guess my point is it's not considered traditional Thanksgiving/Christmas fare, like the other food pics. I'd even scrap the rolls. Potato and macaroni salads are more lunch/dinner-party, barbeque, summer time foods, aka why they are cold.
Traditions vary, often depending on location. Down here potato salad, sweet potato casserole (yuck), and mashed potatoes are common (sometimes all three at the same meal lol). And as far as being temperature driven, in Texas "summer time foods" almost always fit the menu. lol Rolls are a common bread option down here because a lot of folks prefer cornbread dressing over stuffing. Damn it, all this potato salad talk has me craving some. lol
Are you yucking because you (rightfully) don't like sweet potato casserole or sweet potatoes in general? (Answer carefully ) Of course the proper holiday casserole is green bean casserole & proper use of sweet potatoes is both yams as a side & sweet potato pie for dessert (fuck that pumpkin pie noise).
LOL. It's the marshmallows that ruin it for me. That's the only way my daddy would eat it though, so that's the way they were made. Candied sweet potatoes/yams or pie are the best way to go with them. Green bean casserole is semi-popular around here. It wasn't all that popular when I was a kid, but more people were serving it as I got older. It's okay, but I'm not a fan of the French fried onions. Something else my mama always made during the major holidays was pea salad. She pretty much ate it by herself, but she loved it. lol Mama wasn't much of a cook in general since she hated cooking, but she always did a great job with Thanksgiving and Christmas. She always went all out, and her cornbread dressing was the best.
I can't say that I've actually known anyone both growing up or now as an adult that makes or eats sweet potato casserole. Only ever see pictures of the dish and the marshmallows being part of it always leaves me wondering is it suppose to be a side dish or a dessert?
It's a side dish, and folks eat the hell out of it around here. It might be okay without the marshmallows, but I've never thought it was worth the effort to find out. Lol. There are too many better options.
