James Gunn Named Co-Head of DC's Film, TV and Animation Division DC has finally found its Kevin Feige, or two of them rather, in the form of James Gunn and Peter Safran. The Hollywood Reporter revealed that writer/director Gunn and producer Safran will become co-chairs and co-CEOs of DC Studios. The new studio will replace DC Films at Warner Bros. Discovery, which is being shuttered following Walter Hamada's exit. WBD has spent months looking for an architect to oversee its comic book properties on the big and small screens in the hopes of replicating the success of Marvel Studios president Feige. Gunn will oversee the creative side of DC Studios, with Safran focusing on the business and production end. On top of their new duties, both creatives will continue working in their respective fields. Gunn and Safran will report directly to Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav and work closely with Warner Bros. Pictures co-chairs and CEOs Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy. "We're honored to be the stewards of these DC characters we’ve loved since we were children,” Gunn and Safran said in a statement. "We look forward to collaborating with the most talented writers, directors, and actors in the world to create an integrated, multilayered universe that still allows for the individual expression of the artists involved. Our commitment to Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Harley Quinn, and the rest of the DC stable of characters is only equaled by our commitment to the wonder of human possibility these characters represent. We’re excited to invigorate the theatrical experience around the world as we tell some of the biggest, most beautiful, and grandest stories ever told." While Gunn is deeply associated with rival studio Marvel thanks to his work on the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, recent years have seen him become deeply enmeshed at DC. He directed and wrote The Suicide Squad in 2021 before creating the hit series Peacemaker for HBO Max. He'll return for the second season of that show, and has confirmed he's heading up more DC projects in the future. Safran, meanwhile, has long worked with DC, producing Aquaman, The Suicide Squad, Shazam! and Peacemaker. "DC has among the most entertaining, powerful, and iconic characters in the world and I am thrilled to have the singular and complementary talents of James and Peter joining our world-class team and overseeing the creative direction of the storied DC Universe," Zaslav said in a statement. "Their decades of experience in filmmaking, close ties to the creative community, and proven track record thrilling superhero fans around the globe make them uniquely qualified to develop a long-term strategy across film, TV, and animation, and take this iconic franchise to the next level of creative storytelling."
Interesting much like Snyder though I don't think his style fits the Wider DCEU. Gunn would do well on Flash and Green Lantern among the big characters.
It doesn't sound like Gunn is going to "Snyderverse" the DCEU by making everything fit his style. If anything, he'll probably pick certain characters he'll personally work on in projects and let various other directors work on everything else that they might be a better fit for. At least that's how I'm reading it. We'll see how things roll out over time however.
The Witcher Renewed for Season 4 by Netflix, Liam Hemsworth to Replace Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia Netflix's The Witcher will officially be returning for a fourth season, but it will be doing so with a new Geralt of Rivia as Liam Hemsworth will be replacing Henry Cavill after Season 3. Netflix shared the news alongside quotes from both Cavill and Hemsworth. “My journey as Geralt of Rivia has been filled with both monsters and adventures, and alas, I will be laying down my medallion and my swords for Season 4," Cavill said. "In my stead, the fantastic Mr Liam Hemsworth will be taking up the mantle of the White Wolf. As with the greatest of literary characters, I pass the torch with reverence for the time spent embodying Geralt and enthusiasm to see Liam's take on this most fascinating and nuanced of men. Liam, good sir, this character has such a wonderful depth to him, enjoy diving in and seeing what you can find.” “As a Witcher fan I’m over the moon about the opportunity to play Geralt of Rivia," Hemsworth said. "Henry Cavill has been an incredible Geralt, and I’m honoured that he’s handing me the reins and allowing me to take up the White Wolf’s blades for the next chapter of his adventure. Henry, I’ve been a fan of yours for years and was inspired by what you brought to this beloved character. I may have some big boots to fill, but I’m truly excited to be stepping into The Witcher world.” This news follows the equally internet-breaking news that Cavill would be returning as Superman in the DCEU. There is no word if these two decisions were related, but the timing of the announcements does lend to the possibility. Liam Hemsworth is the younger brother of Chris Hemsworth, the actor who plays Thor in the MCU, and he has starred in such films as The Hunger Games as Gale Hawthorne and Independence Day: Resurgence as Jake Morrison. Season 3 of Netflix's The Witcher will be released in Summer 2023, but we still don't know much about it. The first poster for the upcoming season was revealed at Netflix's TUDUM showcase, and it showed a shattering Wolf medallion that belongs to Geralt's School of the Wolf alongside a swallow - the symbol of Ciri.
Marvel Studios Casts Aquaman Star as Newest MCU Superhero Wonder Man https://thedirect.com/article/marvel-studios-aquaman-mcu-superhero-wonder-man Don't know if they will delve into the Wonder Man & Scarlet Witch relationship but when the news broke Wanda and Elizabeth Olsen's names were trending online with hope of it happening.
It will be awhile before we get this pairing if they even go this route with the characters. Let the white fanboy tears & outrage begin.
The only reason I'm even saying that is because they have so many different story/character routes they can touch on with Wanda including whether or not they reveal that she's actually a mutant in the MCU.
The problem with crossing over most of the relationships from the comics to the screen is that most of these relationships need to be built up in order not to seem random.
I doubt we get this romance. If we do its the only redeeming part of this casting. Otherwise, I don't much see the point in this racebend. If you want a Cosmic Black Man then just use Blue Marvel. Spoiler Takes a possible T'Challa Recast or T'Challa Jr off the Table if BPII Rumors are to be trusted. I prefer comic accurate Black Characters ala a T'Challa who is a super genius not getting nerfed for Shuri.
