The 2020 presidential election is SO serious. I hope most people know. If my mom lost her federal pension, she'd be almost homeless. Get this fuckhead out of office.
Definitely the most crucial election of our lifetime. Even more so than getting a black man elected for the 1st time ever. I never thought we would get to this point after what we felt in November of 2008.
It totally is. So many people in positions like your Mom. She's completed her worklife and should be enjoying her retirement, but these racist mofos trying to pull the rug from under her and many others under the guise of "socialism", "personal responsibility". Agreed. In 2008 it would've been another case of the desired candidate losing, but now there's so much more at stake. It's so obvious that this time we truly need to be rescued from one idiot who surrounds himself with a huge bunch of enabling yes-people.
I am at risk of losing all my medical and dental heath coverage if Trump wins, that I got through the ACA. I am very scared, if this happens, and then I get covid, I would not be able to go to a doctor, I am also a caretaker of older family, and it would be a disaster if we all got sick. No one is going to tell me about personal responsibility, it is not my fault heath care and the cost of living in general is so high, I and others like me deserve access to health care no matter our positions and income level, not just the rich glamorous and famous, or corporate workers. This feels so serious for me, I am literally shaking with emotion now as I type this.
I've been doing campaign work on the ground in West Central Florida for the last couple of weeks, and on the eve of the elections, I honestly cannot call it. Surveys seem to indicate that Biden has it in the bag, but surveys were wrong in 2016. I have read that survey methodology has been updated since then, but I've learned to only trust the strength of a campaign's ground game and their mail-in/absentee ballot efforts. That being said, I'm wishing for a Trump defeat tomorrow (or however long it takes to count the votes).
I feel you, a lot of us are in a similar situation, I work around a lot of older people who rely on the insurance they got through the ACA and I shudder to think how repealing it will be a disaster for them.
Did you lose it in the last 4 years? Because tens of millions of hard-working Americans effectively lost theirs when ACA kicked in, because they couldn't afford the outrageously expensive copays and deductibles. And when they didn't pick an ACA plan, Obama sicced the IRS on them and levied a fine. What President Trump did was remove the IRS penalty if you declined the mandatory requirement to pay for a plan. Other than that, what changed in 4 years? We are still stuck with expensive plans. Medicine prices shot through the roof, under ACA, so President Trump lowered the cost of medication. Other than that, what changed in your benefiting off of medicaid?
I feel you there. This president has been trying his darndest to get rid of the ACA. It's funny how he calls it a disaster yet folks continued to sign up for it. Of course we still have zero details about this great plan he says is ready. I just hope the stars align to get this administration out of our hair.
I did not lose it, but the administration had a go at it to get rid of it in 2017, but it was ruled out, so I was lucky then, but they are determined to ax it. Many low income Americans are at risk of losing benefits they gained through he ACA, if it is removed, and doing that in the middle of a pandemic is crazy. I am not saying it is perfect, but as a saying goes, why throw the baby out with the bathwater? why not try to modify what is or is not working, and keep the rest that is? Trump has said he has a great replacement plan, but no one seems to know what this is. Unless a clear plan is there to replace it and is as good as what I and many poorer Americans have obtained through the ACA, I don’t believe it, and it is wrong to cut off the many who would lose it, without a good clear replacement plan for all to know about. I am not going to go back and forth on this, as you are a ride or-die Trump, and nothing will get you to see the other side of things, so let’s just agree to disagree.
I'm not ride-or-die on issues or policy with ANY politician. Never have been. The ACA, while it helped the 20 million uninsured, including those with a pre-ex-con, it financially DESTROYED the mid-to-lower income families. Some couples actually divorced to qualify for Medicaid. Millions of healthy young Americans were saddled with choosing expensive plans when all they wanted was a catastrophic plan. Did you ever have to choose and pay for any plan? No. Understand, the costs and co-pays are outrageous. Thousands a month in premiums, then up to $5,000-$10,000 co pays/deductibles, whereas before it was $1,000-$2000. Who can afford that? So tax-paying Americans don't or barely visit the doctor or get services that they need to treat conditions, while you do, and never get a bill. You get dental? Congratulations. Free, right? Millions of working Americans lost that, which they had under their affordable plans before ACA, because now they are so expensive. Unless you work for a Corporation or the Government who pays or helps pay, ACA is financially devastating. You said you are poor, which means you dont pay a dime under Medicaid, but that was the case before Obamacare, so you have been covered, no matter what. However, you cannot remain selfish on this issue, while YOU get free services, keep a thought for those who work hard and pay huge fees, for less services. The ACA needs to be revamped, it needs to go back to affordable private plans as before, while keeping the expanded services for the poor and those with a PEC.
MI ratid this child love fi lie. The difference now is they have a six to three majority in the Supreme Court and your boy doesn't have to worry reelection if he wins. And it's not like they didn't try to repeal and replace but they couldn't get the votes because they used most of their political capital with the tax cuts.
Let's be honest, they didn't get the votes because Trump and Co had no viable plan to replace it with. They really need to fix this shit.
Sweet Jesus in heaven we agree on one thing. Also let's be honest premiums were consistently going up anyway and Im no big fan of the ACA but at the very least you won't be without insurance for getting sick. It's the difference of 3k for premiums (which is high) or 30k out of pocket expenses. Now we have decouple employment from Healthcare and we'll be fine and dandy.
