    Bannon, backed by billionaire, prepares to go to war

    Steve Bannon's next moves will be all about the billionaire Mercer family. I'm told Bannon, who visited New York this week, met with Bob Mercer and together they will be a well-funded force on the outside.

    Bannon has felt liberated since it became clear he was being pushed out, according to friends. He's told associates he has a "killing machine" in Breitbart News, and it's possible he returns to lead their editorial operation.

    A source familiar with Breitbart's operations told me they would go "thermonuclear" against "globalists" that Bannon and his friends believe are ruining the Trump administration, and by extension, America.

    Watch for Breitbart's Washington Editor Matt Boyle to be a central figure in this war — which has already begun — against White House officials like HR McMaster, Dina Powell, Gary Cohn, and Jared and Ivanka.

    "On Friday’s Velshi & Ruhle, the financial journalists were interviewing The Trump Factor author Brad Thomas about the economy, when they both had enough of his narrative.

    After Velshi pressed him on “pedaling this myth that Donald Trump is responsible for this [stock] market,

    Thomas said the president had already created over a million jobs since he took office in January.

    The hosts wasted no time abruptly interrupting for the second time.

    “Donald Trump is not even close to being the largest job creator in the first six months of his presidency,” contended Velshi. “There are four recent presidents who do better than him.

    Why do you continue to say these things?”

    Secret Service says that all the traveling Pres. Trump has done plus the number of people who are covered under the Secret Service in his administration has just about depleted funds for the service for this year.

    What happens if the Secret Service can’t afford to pay its agents? Those agents might soon find out.

    The director of the Secret Service, Randolph “Tex” Alles, told USA TODAY that more than 1,000 agents have already maxed out their salary and overtime allowances — allowances that were supposed to last all year.

    Alles said the service must protect 42 people, including 18 Trump family members. Under the Obama administration, that number was 31.

    Adding to Alles’ woes is a recent exodus of agents, thanks to travel and work demands.

    He's just a weirdo.
    Going from Obama to that is truly the sublime to the ridiculous.
    Speaking as a non-American the general perception over here is that America just took a huge step backwards. To about 1950.
    It really scares people that the likes of Bush and Trump can get elected over there.
    You could sort of expect it in Russia or the Middle East, or that there could be some tin-pot European or South American dictatorships run by lunatic despots.
    But not America. We need you guys to be much more progressive. Trump is the opposite of that. He's a throwback.
    I can't see how the world is a better place with him as America's president.

    Dear Mr. President -

    Congratulations on a remarkable run. Millions have placed their hopes in you, and all of us, regardless of party, should hope for expanded prosperity and security during your tenure.

    This is a unique office, without a clear blueprint for success, so I don't know that any advice from me will be particularly helpful. Still, let me offer a few reflections from the past 8 years.

    First, we've both been blessed, in different ways, with great good fortune. Not everyone is so lucky. It's up to us to do everything we can (to) build more ladders of success for every child and family that's willing to work hard.

    Second, American leadership in this world really is indispensable. It's up to us, through action and example, to sustain the international order that's expanded steadily since the end of the Cold War, and upon which our own wealth and safety depend.

    Third, we are just temporary occupants of this office. That makes us guardians of those democratic institutions and traditions -- like rule of law, separation of powers, equal protection and civil liberties -- that our forebears fought and bled for. Regardless of the push and pull of daily politics, it's up to us to leave those instruments of our democracy at least as strong as we found them.

    And finally, take time, in the rush of events and responsibilities, for friends and family. They'll get you through the inevitable rough patches.

    Michelle and I wish you and Melania the very best as you embark on this great adventure, and know that we stand ready to help in any ways which we can.

    Trump was slipping on gloves to help serve food to the shelter’s residents at the NRG Stadium in Houston when he turned to news reporters and proclaimed, “My hands are too big!”

    Yup. Last year I was in Toronto 7 months ahead of the election, but still close enough that it was clear that he could capture the presidency (as scary as it is) was becoming the sad reality. In speaking with several Canadians, most were expressing sympathy at the real possibility of having a horrible person such as 45 as POTUS. Rarely does a day pass where I'm not shaking my head. He's so full of hate and racism, and he's managed to surround himself with like-minded people. Even the KKK is feeling welcomed by the POTUS. Very sad in many ways.
