Police and DOC pay for college as well. My only thing against the military is the low pay to risk your life. If it's all you can find at 18 fine but unless you have a full scholarship to undergrad and grad school. Don't waste your money, you are so much more better off learning how to manage and invest and then work.
I won't be done paying off mine and my girls student loans until I'm 60 if I keep with this payment schedule and by the interest more than doubles the principle. Scam

 

The thing about the Military is that they pay for school even after you're done working for them. So it's not like you're still having to work a full-time job while you're in school, and most police depts start out with low pay as well. Matter of preference I guess, but I think the military background looks better for future employment with government.

 

Depends on where you are too because cops in my area start at 47k but with over time most of them are hitting 100k easy and within 5 years that base is 90k. A lot NY cops live in the same areas as lawyers doctors and finance guys. In fact one of our forensic accounting guys did his 25 with NYPD has a 6 figure pension and works for us probably making at least 60k.
But you're right it is all a matter of preference. If I could do it all over again I would have done it the cop way. At the time I was in college is when we got into Iraq, no way I would have chanced that. A couple of good friends died from that shit.

 

What branch were they in?

 

Two army one marine. The marine dude didn't die just lost his mind pretty much. Came home and literally brought a gun to every conflict. Anything from saying something he didn't like to looking at him the wrong way. Got locked up for it.

The only cop job that looks good to me is homicide. Domestic violence disputes must really suck. I wouldn't want to be a narc either, you don't know your cover is blown until someone puts a slug into the back of your head. Most departments want you to work narcotics before you can get promoted to detective.....I would pass.

That's more of an FBI thing. I'm good I prefer tech. The accounting is just for my investment/business knowledge.
