    +100.

People don't realize that in 2017 we're ASPIRING for many folks a mid-industrial revolution lifestyle where life was about waking up, work, come home, eat, scraps for the kid and wife....then do it again.

That's how you lived and died with no opportunity for advancement or upward mobility.
Some don't realize they're defending the existence of a permanent worker underclass in America.

This is a different time and age and if this girl can collect funds on gofundme to go to college, more power to her.
There's a bit of a race hustle in her game because I'm sure there are hundreds if not thousands of teen White girls in the same situation if not worse, but whatever.

We need to have more avenues for young people, and folks in general, to discover and develop their most viable talents and not have their lives wasted as slave labor on tasks that ultimately will be usurped by AI and automation in a decade anyway.

20/20 had a program on tonight "My Reality: A Hidden America" Profiles of working individuals and families across America who are struggling to stay in the middle class; issues of dwindling job opportunities, income inequality and community solutions are explored.

You'd be surprised how much of this life in the USA is about 'begging' other people for money.
Politicians, charities and non-profits, Hollywood movie producers, entrepreneurs who solicit venture capitalists for start up capital, trying to get a small business loan from a bank, getting an extension from a utility to pay late bills, etc.
Even Walmart's business model is somewhat based on convincing gullible and desperate Americans to give them their hard earned money for cheaply made, disposable products.

In fact, 4north1side2, I bet you there's some detailed aspect of your own life that if you posted it on gofundme would result in dollars in your pocket.

If you feel that person's struggle, support it.

Who remembers the guy in Detroit who raised money on gofundme to get money to buy a car to drive to work because he 'claimed' he walked 21 miles to work?? He ultimately received $300,000 through gofundme.
But some folks were like dude should get a job closer to where he works, etc.

The girl in the OP is a child of her time. Her parents tried to screw her for dating IR and now she's flipping the script on them by using social media and information technology to combat their own racism.

Can't be mad at that. And I'm sure the girl KNOWS working to support herself is going to be her reality in the near future.

Define it however you want, but I don't see a problem with investing in people. especially students.
Return on a human investment is not always something you can see on a balance sheet.

And what do you think capitalism is in the modern age? Boba brings up a good point that I missed earlier. When companies try to bring a product or service to market most of them seek outside investors even apply to grants in order to make it happen. Thousands upon thousands of people "begging" for money to invest with. Why is it different for an individual to do the same?
I'm trying to understand why so many of you are so married to this grind mentality.

Did New York just legalize something? Wtf are you smoking? The people sending her money are not "investors" lol. What do You take me for? Someone that has spent money for education and time for experience just to be dumb? Lol.

Yeah I see this point, on that note, many indigenous people of the world did not have to pay for their existence, it was not always like this for humans, they were born, and their society was not demanding they pay for existing, this is part of industrial society.

I remember reading about the conflicts between the ideology of the settlers in America and the Native Americans, one asked, why not sell the air? the concept of owning and buying and having to pay and buy things was foreign to them.

How this relates, is one group of people telling and deciding for another group what and how they must live and pay for their life. It is different now, times have changed, the economy has changed, the idea of just pulling up by the bootstraps is I think a bit outdated. I know plenty of people who work plenty hard, multiple jobs etc and have no time for themselves, their quality of life is compromised, and it does not make them better characters, it causes depression, stress, and mental physical illness, so I do not blame someone for asking for help, I personally would prefer to look more in private first than put all my business out on the web, but maybe her folks did not teach her life skills, to find a job etc.

and an education is not an extra luxury item, it is almost necessary now, so it is not dispensable, she wants one, someone should inform her of available aid for school, federal aid etc, she may not be getting adequate guidance on this stuff. It is one thing saying there are other things out there, but another for her to be informed and get help on how to get that aid for school, it can be a complicated process.

In my area, I knew someone who worked at a pizza chain, she worked most of the day hours, only got one day off, and barely had time for anything else, this is not a life to aspire to.

Look at it another way, when a wild animal finds free food, or gets some food from a human, should it feel guilty, and think wow, I should have "worked" for this. No, it takes what it can find, because life is hard enough, and I would take help wherever I could get it.

No because I care about my freedom. I'm also not gonna just sit there and no do shit about it when I don't have the required things to get what I want. I use the available resources that still require me to do the work.

Not everything is available to everyone fam. We all have to grind and it's worked out pretty well for me but what I'm saying is why are we ok with grinding being the only lane to existence. And why do we have to apply our individual circumstances on everyone else. I could be smug and go around saying hey get a masters or PhD in finance stop complaining about jobs. I just see how things are changing so rapidly, have you been to a McDonald's lately, they got automated ordering which means at some point even lowly service jobs will not available then what. We're going to continue with the hey go out and get a job mantra when there are no more jobs. The thinking has to shift or we're done for. When there are little to no opportunities what do you think happens?
You get countries like Brazil and Venezuela where the haves hoard everything while the have nots murder each other over nothing.
We either take care of each other now, vote for better now, or chug along thinking we as individuals will some how make it while millions of other people suffer. We gotta drop this individualistic mindset it's so damn cancerous and only works in the short term.

Only on WWBM could someone turn some little entitled white girl into a symbol for investing in humanity's future simply because she's dating a black dude and mommy & daddy don't approve. SMDH.

Why should everyone Hustle? And what the hell is hustling anyway. I got colleagues who make what you make in a year in under a month. They aren't hustling as hard as you but some how that's ok.
We are all sponges taking and consuming what we want vs what we need. Why is it some how more unbareable when the person asks for money online opposed to grinding away at a soul sucking job where they aren't valued anyway? Rethink your position

No one thinks she's entitled because she wants to go to school. She's entitled because she wants strangers to pay for her school instead of using the hundreds of advantages she has and do it herself. She wants people to feel sorry for her, being "stripped" of all the luxuries mommy and daddy bought her cause she has a black boyfriend. GTFOH. She wants to keep her little privileged lifestyle, if not at the parents expense then at the publics. Fuck that. I'm all for supporting youth who are truly out of options. This girl hasn't even touched her options because she's used to being taken care of. Grow up, that's not real life and everyone donating to her fund is just prolonging reality for her.
