I wouldn't say it makes me unhappy but it's a distraction. I spend too much time staring at my phone and chatting in groups. I used to read books all the time. Now I'm checking FB notifications.

I had to deactivate my Facebook...there were people who I dont even know in real life, making me angry far too often. I said the hell with it....better off without it....

I personally do think it is a time stealer...all in moderation...it can be an addiction...trying to be better about turning off my phone...setting my laptop aside...limiting online interaction...

Social media does have a way of frying your brain, doesn't it? It's a great tool to get in touch with long-lost friends but there are so few and far between that I actually care about socializing with and the other handful it's just on overdrive and it has become part of my daily ritual one of the first things I do and I admit my time would be better spent and I'd be better served doing other things with my life

I am one of those parents that watches my kids' Twitter accounts just to see what they're up to. I never comment on anything or say anything directly to them, but it's a nice way of seeing what they talk about and what they do when they're not around me

Sometimes I just want to unplug deactivate and get away from everything online from my phone to my computer I just want to check out for a while

    It's overwhelming and depressing sometimes

Right now, I'm making me unhappy because I've been lying in bed all morning going back and forth between here and FB. Getting nothing done. Oy.

Same here. It makes me more exhausted than anything else. Information overload. I went through my friends list a few days ago and got rid of a bunch of people. I'm probably take an FB vacation sometime soon, especially with the election season coming up. If that doesn't drive me completely insane then nothing else will.

I did the same thing. I deleted forever-ago "friends" (they were more acquaintances than friends) that I have zero interaction with and I deleted some who were just too ignorant in their political discussions for me to keep around. I like to minimize acquaintances on fb, leave it to just family and friends (and football groups lol). Keeping it simple like that minimizes drama and keeps it relaxed.

I understand the feeling. I have 'de-friended' a lot of people and turned off notifications for a lot of others to avoid being constantly contacted to respond to every little bit of mental diarrhea that everyone is afflicted with.

lol I do that with certain family. I don't want to defriend them (they're family lol), and I check their page every so often to make sure they're still alive, but all that daily drama...no thx lol.

Unfollowing people has really saved my online sanity. I have a hard time deleting family too but most of my relatives don't say anything outrageously offensive. So far I've only had to get rid of two people for that reason. Plus the most important people have my number and or email address so they can always reach me.

I also use FB Purity (Chrome browser extension) to filter out a lot of things that I really don't want to see at all which also helps. I wish I'd discovered it sooner.

    I totally agree.

Thanks for the heads-up. I hadn't heard about that extension and hadn't used Chrome in a while. I may make that the default browser for my social media activity.

I think I can do that on my LG tablet but not my iPad right? What does it help you filter?

If your iPad can install apps from the Google App store then you might be able to use it. I know that it works for the desktop version of Chrome but there's not a version available on my phone. I don't have a tablet so I'm not sure if it will work the same. None of my browser extensions work on my phone and I can't find a way to make that happen.

As far as what it can block, pretty much everything. You can filter out notifications about who liked what page, who commented on what status, game updates, picture updates, news ticker options, fan pages, who joined what group...the list goes on. Plus you can also see who's defriended you and can also block updates with certain keywords. I have mine set to block any status updates about Scandal or How To Get Away With Murder because some people were about to get blocked lol.

I can block or filter most of that stuff from my iPhone/iPad but I don't know how to block the game requests. I don't play fb games and I have zero interest in them so those notifications are infuriating lol. I have some chrome app on my android tablet, I'll have to check it out. I don't think I can do Google App Store from my iPad though, everything just goes through their App Store. I'll check it out though on the tablet!

Can you do that from the mobile app itself? 'Cause if so Imma need to hear your secrets lol.

I don't think I'm going to go through all the trouble and time it takes to install blocks I'm just going to delete people

it's funny when you get divorced how your friends divorce you too! always pick one side or the other... Fair weather friends think I'll do myself a favor and delete
