Back in the 90's, there was an animated series called Kong. This Kong was huge. Kong had a human friend who had an electronic link to him. The human called him bro. I wonder if Kong: Skull Island will be set in the 30's. If it is, Godzilla will be like the Godzilla in Godzilla Vs King Ghidorah in the WW2 timeline before the nuclear testing in the Pacific islands of Bikini and Enewetok. That would work. If it is set in the present, I don't know. Gorillas and the subject of mutation does not sound convincingly feasible. If set in the 30's, the two would be evenly matched because Godzilla will not have his signature heat ray.


The next Godzilla film, I think, will establish that Mothra will have a link to Ford Brody since he had Mothra as a pet.

 

It's science fiction. That's like saying humans and mutation isn't feasible thus the X-Men as a comic & movie concept makes no sense and shouldn't work.


As far as going back and setting it back in the 30's, especially saying Godzilla wouldn't have atomic breath, what's the point since it would basically be Kong vs T-Rex all over again.


More than likely they will set everything in present time. There are multiple ways to tie in some of the old Toho Kaiju concepts into the 2014 Godzilla mythos that they have set up. Skull Island can basically be the updated take on the whole "Monster Island" concept being that it's a lost world prehistoric world with various creatures, dinosaurs, primates and insects that have evolved far more differently and bigger that the prehistoric fossils that have been found and studied by science thus far due to various environmental changes over the centuries.

 

I guess that's something to consider since it is science fiction. The galaxy is the limit. We'll see how it turns out in 2020.

Thank God John Williams is on the score for this film. I couldn't see anyone else with the same composing prowess (there are a good many like Michael Giacchino, whom has worked with J.J. Abrams quite often, or John Ottman and Joel McNeeley who had composed a Star Wars score called The Power of the Force)and imagination that Williams brought to the franchise.

 

Wow! I guess I may actually watch a football game now. Lol

 

Is it blasphemous to suggests that John Williams is a pretty overrated composer?

But, he has created the scores to this franchise, so it would be great to have him remain here. Though, I would not expect anything memorable in this movie.

 

In a word? Yes.

Sorry, but between Star Wars, Jaws, E.T., et al, he has provided the soundtrack for most of my favorite moments in cinema. Throw in Danny Elfman and Ennio Morricone and you've got about 60% of the best theme music ever recorded.

John Williams' film scores got me through high school. In his many decades in composing for film and television(he worked for Jerry Goldsmith), you never know what he will bring out.

 

Oscar Isaac in the house! I get more psyched about this movie with each passing day. Talk about serendipity, I'm watching Peter Mayhew judge the guys on 'Comic Book Men'.

 

Don't get me wrong, he has composed some memorable music, but there is a difference between music that is memorable versus music that would make my ears resonate in good feels. I thoroughly enjoy Danny Elfman's works, and I would even say Hans Zimmer as well, who is considered to be on the best composers (though he's considered overrated too). But then again, my youth was more into video game music, or music from video games, so perhaps that is why.
