You know what would be interesting is if they made Static and Luke Cage white to shake things up a bit. After all its only fiction.
No to Static and I don't care about Luke cage. Static is really an icon(no association meant to icon) for black people where there was none. He made a huge break through where it is hard to bring in a new character of any race. heck got his on TV show. I can't think of a single new character that gained so much fame.
It's a fictional character what difference does it make what color he is. I think it would be interesting to see a white Static
Uh, uh ... Don't make come back here. ...lol But, on the real, as much as I love Static, they can have him if we get Peter Parker/Spider-Man. Or, better yet, Superman or Batman.
rather then make a comment of this coming from a guy who had issues with the new thor. I will point out there is a history with Static. He is basically the only Black character created by a black person that hit main stream.Dwayne McDuffie is also dead. I don't like changes to milestone because that was basically the only comic that I knew of that was made by black people. You can change the rest as you please though just not static or icon or rocket pretty much don't touch milestone.
I was trying to make a point. Leave the source material as is. We don't have to change anything just make new characters. If you want more females in comics don't make Thor a woman be fucking creative and create a great character or use the plethora of amazing female characters already created. Same goes for race and sexual orientation. Does there really need to be a gay Superman for people to be happy why not create one
It is hard to get new characters to gain popularity. Miles Morales would have never survived if he wasn't spider-man. That's what make Static so interesting He is the latest new characters even though it has been over 23 years. It is not that easy. It is far easier to use the name. People don't realize that. Can you name a new hero from the 2000's? Most people can't. It doesn't work in trying to diversify the team to modern times.
Hit Girl from Kick Ass Ang from Last Airbender Goku (more like late 90s) I can't think of a ton but if the reason that we have to change the race and gender of long beloved characters is fear they won't be widely adopted then that's really lazy and sad thinking. No one saw the iconic figure Neo would become but it happened, same can be said for other newer heroes. What happened to creativity?
We are talking about Comic books. ang is from a tv show. Goku is not from comic books but manga and even if he was.. He first appeared in 1984. He is a derivative of so many goku versions. Hitgirl I will give you. 2/3 of your picks weren't even comic book characters. That says something.:smt011 People have to buy your stuff so that you can eat food. The trinity and the diverse characters in DC and Marvel tends to drawn out any all others.
My overall point is new characters can emerge and have some success. And just because people have to make a living is no excuse for lazy thinking and not being creative. Give the people a chance to reject something before assuming it'll bomb. Give things a chance to actually work. If you're looking for guarantees then its the wrong business to be in.
I'm not sure, but it seems like an odd marketing choice. You would think they would want to generate a little more attention. Especially since Jessica Jones isn't that well known of a character.
Anyone listen to the 'Stuff To Blow Your Mind' podcast? Today's episode is the first of a two-part series on the science of Frank Herbert's Dune.
