EXCLUSIVE: FEDS REGULARLY MONITOR BLACK LIVES MATTER SINCE FERGUSON

The Department of Homeland Security has been monitoring the Black Lives Matter movement since anti-police protests erupted in Ferguson, Missouri last summer, according to hundreds of documents obtained by The Intercept through a Freedom of Information Act request.

The documents, released by the Department of Homeland Security’s Office of Operations Coordination, indicate that the department frequently collects information, including location data, on Black Lives Matter activities from public social media accounts, including on Facebook, Twitter, and Vine, even for events expected to be peaceful. The reports confirm social media surveillance of the protest movement and ostensibly related events in the cities of Ferguson, Baltimore, Washington, DC, and New York.

They also show the department watching over gatherings that seem benign and even mundane. For example, DHS circulated information*on a nationwide series of silent vigils and a DHS-funded agency planned to monitor a funk music parade and a walk to end breast cancer in the nation’s capital.

The tracking of domestic protest groups and peaceful gatherings raises questions over whether DHS is chilling the exercise of First Amendment rights, and over whether the department, created in large part to combat terrorism, has allowed its mission to creep beyond the bounds of useful security activities...

“Over time there’s a serious harm to the associational rights of the protesters and it’s an effective way to chill protest movements. The average person would be less likely to go to a Black Lives Matter protest if the government is monitoring social media, Facebook, and their movements.”...


.....Maurice Mitchell, an organizer with Blackbird, a group that helps support activism against police violence in communities across the country says...

....“It is concerning that the government would be diverting resources towards surveilling citizens who are assembling and expressing their First Amendment rights...The fact that our government is doing this — I can only assume to disrupt us — is pretty alarming… Directly after 9/11, people said, ‘if you’re not doing anything wrong you have nothing to worry about.’ Well, now we’re fighting back against police brutality and extrajudicial killings, yet they are using this supposedly anti-terrorist infrastructure against us.”

So now does the Govt see BlackLivesMatter as a potential terror group? It's alarming.
While l understand the Feds creating 'Situational Awareness" in the event that an unstable activist might cross the line and go (criminally) rogue (like the NY cop killer), we know the Govt never doesn't need much to target, nor do things half-assed when it comes to surveillance and intimidation and finding ways to subdue independent growth of movements.

I think the Black Lives Matter organization that was founded by three black women is seen as a threat to the Democratic Party's advancement for next year Presidential Election. It could be a spoiler that might bring out record numbers of whites who believe that this movement is out to destroy the country in a time of ISIS homegrown threats (many blacks are seen as lone wolves of ISIS). The silent majority is also afraid this movement will change the course of law enforcement in this country as well. The Black Lives Matter Movement need to counter-punch with a protest of two thirds of Planned Parenthood centers being located in the black communities across this country to control black populations BY MURDERING BLACK BABY LIVES. An organization founded by the racist eugenic Margaret Sanger (RESEARCH HER) and the untold thousand of black men being murdered every year in this country. I know, I know, the denials will take over.

 

Don't put much stock into this. This is under the Obama Administration that went after the Ferguson police department for placing institutional racism on the city.

I think they are more than likely monitoring for any people who want to enter the group and give a bad image to the message of police reform.

These are two black men in a city that consistently attacked black people and insulted Barack Obama's wife in a racist picture and made racist comments about Barack Obama. Now we want to believe that they are seeking doom for the BLM.

They didn't do shit in Ferguson. The town was using its poor black residents as a cash register, and nobody was punished. Of the three officials who were singled out for sending racist emails (they were apparently circulated by a lot more than that) at least one has already found new employment in a different agency in St. Louis county.

They even got officers openly bragging out how they're going to spend their "Michael Brown bonuses" because of the overtime that they get whenever protests pop off in Ferguson.

They got three of the main troublemakers out of Ferguson. That is doing something as oppose to they didn't do anything. That would mean that they would still be there.

Motherfucker, are you high? They got rid of a couple of cops and a court clerk for doing something that most government workers in the town were doing. And they didn't even really "get rid of them." They were allowed to resign, so that they'd be able to get the same job somewhere else like the clerk already has.

The targeting of black people for revenues from criminal charges was a matter of policy that was knowingly enacted by the mayor, city council, police and the judges who worked the circuit in that part of St. Louis county.

They all should have been prosecuted and thrown in jail just like they to did Kwame Kilpatrick and his corrupt administration in Detroit.

Ferguson PD should have been dissolved just like the department that Darren Wilson worked for before he worked in Ferguson.

Kwame was dealt with through both state and county. You should be blaming those two instead of blaming someone who has only so much power. For you to dissolve the Ferguson PD, you put the citizens in the hands of the county police which you have already pointed to the corruption of. really looks like a catch 22. The best idea was placed in to replace the top and let the citizens take over. The head police officer was replaced by a black guy. He is going to slowly weed out all of the trouble makers in the lower ranks. He has already increased the diversity of the police officers.


Why am I always the one talking about what good black people are doing for the community and others talking about how little black people do for the community?
