A friend of mine on Facebook posted a story about Jared on the day the Feds raided his house. My friend responded to comments on the article as if Jared was guilty. Another friend of his said, hold on, there's no real information as to WHY the Feds raided his house, let's wait to see all of the facts before we jump to conclusions, because nowadays it's guilty in the eyes of the media.

    This is so true.

How many stories break online and everyone gets up in arms about it only to have new information come out in the days afterward and it turns out it wasn't as bad as people assumed when they first heard.

I haven't said anything about the Jared case because I happen to agree with that guy - the ONLY information that we have right now is that the Feds raided his house. There is no information as to why the raid happened.

I prefer to wait a few days or even weeks before I jump to any conclusions, because that's how long it takes for the real stories to come out.

I couldn't agree more. I was just thinking about this the other day - how the internet has basically ruined society as we know it, and I don't think we'll ever get it back.

It's unfortunate what society has become due to Twitter, Instagram, 24hour news, etc.

Sometimes I want to scream "Stop the world, I want to get off!"

Bruce Jenner and the Kardashians deliberately thrust themselves into the spotlight and opened themselves up. Bruce's even doing an E special as Caitlin. he even said he's doing it for the money.

Well, when the FBI obtain a warrant of that magnitude and bring in Postal Service investigators, something's up.

His Director was arrested 2 months ago - don't you think that if your head director of your charity was arrested you would have already provided anything that you think would help in procuring a conviction for a perverted sick man?
Why did it take a warrant for the FBI to get their hands on your computer?
I'm pretty sure they asked him a while ago if there's anything that you have that can help us?

Jared hasn't addressed his fan or anything. He could at least say something.

Also, l find it hard to believe that he didn't have some inkling of his Charity Director's behavior --- 400 child porn videos...that's a lot to own and not get sloppy. I think he was aware and didn't do anything.

Having worked in or around the media for years now I can tell you that

    1) perception is reality
    2) negative news sells and therefore the media will "jump the smoking gun" whether proven to be true or not

Given so much involvement with the various law enforcement agencies, and given past association w the Director, they aren't going to fuss and waste any time investigating this case.

    I can't say I blame them.

Will be interesting to see what's going on behind closed doors

    And on Kardashian news...

I agree w Bliss in that the Kardashian clan threw themselves into the lime light and forced all of the details of their lives down our throats whether we wanted to be fed or not.

Rarely. And it's a shame, too.

News broadcasts more negative news and stories that will capture and captivate the viewers. All based on ratings.

Same concept with reality TV. Scripted agendas to keep the viewers in suspense and TV full of drama.

    Trash tv.

Yeah but we are partly the blame....traffic slows down to see that car accident.

    Good points, Cherok33.

Also, Kardashians often sell and plant stories no matter how detrimentall to the person in the family, just to get continued exposure. Bad press is still pre$$.

You mentioned lack of investigative reporting...very true.. we all remember back in the day when reporters took the time to do that, because their papers or magazines came out daily or weekly -- now its 140 characters in a tweet, or an hourly updated story online -- they're all competing for the eyeballs first, so they barely have the time to investigate anymore.

Excellent point! You ever notice how the media now previews their upcoming stories with some eye-catching statement before they even report the story. It's all a competition. Limited time for extra fluff let alone actual, fact based and driven stories.

Truth. That's why I love it when Jimmy Fallon asks news anchors around the country to do a bit on The Tonight Show by doing fake "happy" stories. It's cute and refreshing.

I cannot fathom how people continue to think that reality TV is not scripted. It boggles my mind.

It's criminal what that family does to stay in the press and the press eats it right up.

I so wish they would STOP giving the Kardashians any air/paper time, but that is NEVER going to happen, which saddens me.

Yep. Twitter is ruining our society in 140 characters.

For all good social media does, it does bad, too. Too many stories both good and bad of what's happened to people. Don't know if it will find it's own level (or balance) or not.

That Fallon skit sounds like fun. Dovtou think he bites off Jimmy Kimmel?

The Kardashians pay tabloids and TMZ to keep them in the news, akin to advertisers.
In fact, many companies do this as well. When a brand is mentioned in a story, it's a red flag for me.

You're right, goodlove. We need to start doing this.

Your assessment of the media is spot on, Cherok33. If it bleeds, it leads.

I can sympathize with you on that point. I try to put either posts about culture (books, musics, film, science & technology) or economics/politics on my FB page for this reason. I don't always succeed, but anything to slow down the deluge of negativity.

Wow. You would think that, with all he's got going on, he would like a little privacy.
