Yeah, I know that's how Spider-Man is, but that's not how Peter Parker is. From the time he discovered he had spider powers up until he discovered the identity of the person who killed Uncle Ben, "Yes" he was totally cocky and started to be a bit self centered. Uncle Ben's death brought him back down to being humble. When he puts the mask & costume on he lets that wise cracking cocky side out. That whole dual identity dynamic clicked with a lot of nerdy kids growing up and is the reason why Spider-Man is such a nerd icon character.
I recommend seeing Toby Maguire in the film The Ice Storm. His character discusses the uniqueness of The Fantastic Four in the narration. The Ice Storm was made before Spider-Man(I think). It seemed to me that Maguire was destined to play in a comic book film because the character he played was a comic book nerd. Maguire did a great job as Peter Parker. Andrew Garfield carried on and went with the flow.
I saw Electra. It was fair. The anime classic Ninjas Scroll was heavily influenced in the film. All the villains she fought resembled the villains in Ninjas Scroll. Daredevil referenced a scene from Ninjas Scroll. It isn't a bad film and is worth a look. Jennifer Garner looked good as Electra(she and Ben Affleck had great chemistry, more so than Ben had with J.Lo).
Biggest fail that could have been awesome right behind Green Lantern. All the pieces were there but for some reason they couldn't make it happen.
Not enough back story to connect us with the main character. Cheesy special effects and they needed a better villain. It totally deserves a reboot but tv style like they did on HBO but live action on a network like AMC with a big budget.
I've never seen Spawn but I did read the occasional issue back in the day. It really has a pretty insane backstory. It sucks that the movie apparently didn't capture that.
I liked Spawn. John Leguizamo was hilarious as Clown. Michael Jai White did a good job as Al Simmons. A friend of mine, who had read the comics from the beginning told me the the Violator was a bit off and so was the head demon. I didn't read the comics but I saw the animated series on. HBO. It pulled no punches. I was expecting that in the live action film but it fell short.
The Clown (John Leguizamo) was ok, but l felt like he was mimicking the Penguin. The movie at times reminded me of a poor-man's batman with Spawn's red cape. But I'm with you Gor, the special effects were great, especially when the Clown converted. I also love Theresa Randle as an actress....l agree with TDK 100% though..they have to remake it, it's a great showcase but l think in today's PC people might complain about "why he gotta be indebted to the devil" etc, lol.
Lol....l actually LOVED how much he loved his wife and family... and even his DOGGIE!! :smt054 Beautiful character trait...l mean, he bartered his soul for a chance to see them again.
John Leguizo's Clown didn't mimic Danny DeVito's Penguin. The Penguin wouldn't carry on like Clown did. But in the comics world. Even characters destined to be super villains are oftentimes imitated in one form or another. Spawn's cape along with the rest of his uniform is a simbiote lifeforms. If Al Simmons dies, the uniform will take over with his memories and skills from his former life. Todd McFarlane once said that he believes Spawn was a better super hero than Batman. "It is because Al lov his wife and even after death he's still watch over and protect her." He named Al Simmons after a man he knew.
He's an anti-hero. Yes, he acquired his hellspawn powers from hell, but he's fighting against the very demons that tricked him into joining them and he's taking down earthly beings through vigilant, above-the-law tactics. The story is pretty compelling, especially later on when there's a greater story involved.
I like the way you described him. Perfect verbiage. Didn't think to look at him as anti-hero. Wait what...HBO have a series on his character? Is it on Demand? My Bff has HBO.
It was on HBO in the 90s. It still holds up. You might be able to find the old episodes on youtube BOOM!!!
