So everything is cool huh lol. And according to other trans people she would have felt black her whole life not just around the time she started looking for certain jobs.

So your assertion is that lying and committing fraud is the same thing as telling a kid a story. That lying about your family, making false discrimination claims along with getting your brother to lie is the same as telling a child about Santa Claus? Lmao ok.

Due to the fact she didn't gain any thing or cause harm to the public by lying about her "race" which doesn't exist anyway it's not much different than lying about Santa. You don't want to see it that way because you took the lie so seriously. Lol

So are people upset with Ms. Dolezal because on some level she's a dishonest person, or because her assuming a Black identity is racist in its intent and execution???

No one has defended the lying about her background, or alleging crimes committed against her. (The Howard lawsuit if you check it I think was with merit, but I don't think she won.)

But I just don't have a problem if a WW believes she can become a BW and that's how she chooses to live her life, which seems to be the main 'lie' people are most concerned.

The last one sorry really doesn't bother me.


Finally there are lots of Black folk,etc. who refuse to be identified as African-American or Black because they believe both terms are either too broad or too limiting.

Ms. Dolezal didn't say she was African American, but you left out she sure as hell said she identifies as BLACK.

Many West Indians I know use those same excuses not be called Black/African American because it doesn't identify them culturally and assumes they are historically Black(in America) and not from immigrants.

See, the thing for me is, Ms. Dolezal saying she's Black is about par as someone from the Dominican Republic or St. Croix saying they aren't Black.


If it works for you, live your life.

P.S. - I think Ms. Dolezal can pull off being a BW better than someone from St. Croix who looks like they were at my family reunion saying they aren't Black.

 

If she wasnt trying to pull off the "im an african woman" then why was she saying her dad was black and checking off job apps as black?

I think it's a little disingenuous to say the reasons for the offense are simply fraud. Lots of people commit fraud and don't get this sort of air time. So let's not pretend.

Some of you are offended about her claim to being black. Plain and simple.

Someone here essentialized the pro-Rachel camp by stating we're just honored that she wants to be black. This is nonsense.

There are black women who dye their hair blonde or red or brunette. Are white people "honored" at the sight of that? Nope. No one give's a shit.

No one really cares when white women tan to extreme lengths. Sure, there may be a few objections here and there... but nothing as in-sync as what we're seeing about Rachel, who is putting mind and body to affiliating with being black.

Besides, I think this sort of deception is understandable. Why do we live in a world where society tells us what race we belong to?

I think we can all agree she wants to be black. To be so, you can't pretend to be black. Your very being has to be so. You have to say so in your job applications and assert that identity to your community in order to be accepted that way. If she were honest, her claim wouldn't be accepted. It wouldn't be accepted by many blacks (as we can see with the responses here). And it wouldn't have been accepted by her parents (as we can see in the interviews).

And then you have live with the scorn of hundreds of black people denying you access because you are not descended from their cumulative struggles.

I think enough is enough.

This is about cultural access. I think that's the keypoint . Rachel can be black. We love her for it. We embrace it. That's my philosophy.

 

What you think and what is fact is worlds apart.

All I can say is as a black man I have the capacity to understand, embrace, and support what Rachel is and who she wants to be at the same time.

Rachel is neither malicious nor sinister. It's the world around her that is trying to force itself upon her.
