There was an interesting discussion on passing.. When it comes to race passing means the ability to be mistaken for another race upon viewing . So in a split second you are classified. Thats what passing means in the discussion or context of race. Then it moved to a question..... What does it mean to be black? Its surely more than skin color or is it? Does being black no different than being white? What does it mean to be white?
Nothing really. If you try to associate certain stereotypes with a certain social construct (race), then you're only perpetuating racism, albeit unaware of it.
Yep....i say theres nothing different. Both groups love their kids and want the best for them....want a good paying job ect.... But what was the msnbc interview with ted cruz meant when he asked him to speak spanish and asked him on spanish related cultural activities such as what are ur favorite cuban meals http://m.huffpost.com/us/entry/7257766
In the US this is very subjective and can be quite different in different areas. There is also the whole thing about what one considers themselves vs how the public identifies them.

I like the color - culture - consciousness idea. It's definitely more than just purely descriptive, I think, although that's probably the most important or obvious marker. That being said, race is a social construct, and should not limit or in any way structure anyone's life chances. LMAO
What the fuck why go from the Vanessa Williams thread, to a completely new one with the same bullshit That fucking goodlove /rant
When I finally stopped laughing, I noticed a couple of things: 1) Her mother spoke about the racial makeup of her family, not Dolezal's father. I immediately thought of white women in the 60s/70s denying their tryst with a black man if the child could pass or giving it up for adoption. 2) The pics looked like two different people. I'm waiting for a satisfactory explanation about those naps.
" RT @AverageBro: So this woman pretended to be black for 37 years and pulled it off? Nobody tried her potato salad tho? #RachelDolezal" Lmao...twitter be taking me back
Controversy is swirling around one of the Inland Northwest’s most prominent civil rights activists, with family members of Rachel Dolezal saying the local leader of the NCAAP has been falsely portraying herself as black for years. http://m.spokesman.com/stories/2015/jun/11/board-member-had-longstanding-doubts-about-truthfu/ Go to 8:17 mark
