The closest living relatives of homosexual sapiens, chimpanzees, eat both. It's highly possible that while ancient hominids and early humans were both omnivorous, homosexual sapiens has over time eaten progressively less meat, as more of a luxury or bonus, rather than a primary source of protein, as gathering and later agriculture provided an increasing share of human nutrition. I think we should get some protein from animal muscle tissue, but think that modern, sedentary people get far too much meat and far too many simple carbs.

I think we're missing one fundamental component regarding meat consumption and it's not so much on how much we consume. Rather, it's how much time we're willing to give to burn the meat into the systems to keep from getting bigger and we could say that we have to blame the lack of self-sufficiency as a society.

The human diet has become less balanced over time and it's probably a good thing for overall nutrition to have greater variety, even if the stomach can probably digest all the meat consumed, eventually.

Ok cows require more land than I thought. Them fuckers can eat. LOL. I guess the question now is can this same land that was used for hay be used for nuts, beans, and potatoes.

Right now, it looks as if the better solution would be for us to stop raising cows and keep the other animals on the menu. :p

Excellent idea. I don't eat red meat (nothing vegetarian about me, just think cows are cute and I don't love meat in general)...it's beneficial to eat other kinds of meat anyways though. Let's all leave the cows alone :D

For me, giving up red meat (most meats in general) was purely a health decision per below, since I have two direct male relatives (paternal grandpa died from colon cancer) and my pops had a colon cancer scare a few years back (thank God we caught it early), so I already had two strikes against me, and I don't want to tempt fate.

    http://www.health.harvard.edu/family_health_guide/red-meat-and-colon-cancer

"Although the results vary, studies from around the world have suggested that a high consumption of meat is linked to an increased risk of colon cancer. In all cases the worry is confined to red meat, not chicken."

Lol sorry. I'm a sucker for anything with fur so giving up meat has never been an issue. I'd never make it as a vegetarian or anything cause I still drink/eat (lactose free) milk and cheeses, not to mention other animal products.

That pretty much sounds like a vegetarian. Vegans are the ones that refrain from all animal products.

The only cancer in my family was pancreatic cancer in my maternal grandfather in his 80s, so I'm primarily worried about that one. I'm not all steak crazy, either. I'm on top of that yardbird and our finned friends, however. The beef is mostly when it's pizza or taco time.

I don't want it all the time, just enough to get a few mouthfuls, lol.

I don't really eat red meat unless I'm cooking out, bourbon burgers with woodford reserve and bloody ribeye steaks are my weakness.

True I guess if I was strict with it, I'd use that classification. I do eat seafood though occasionally and chicken on rare occasion. My family can't imagine a world without meat so they harp on me about not getting enough protein and stuff so I throw them a bone sometimes and eat some chx breast or something lol. See...terrible "vegetarian" :D

    Seafood never gets boring.

Maybe they will ease up on you if you have a shake every now and then.

Lol dude I tried! I have three different kinds of protein shakes I rotate through but people still swear I need meat. Meat (except seafood) gives me a tummy ache but these peeps don't care lol. No winning with my crazy fam

I need to go back and read the definition! Always in good company with you though :freehug:

I have not heard of flexetarian-ism. Do you still eat chicken as you didn't mention them?

I'm not sure what you seek in terms of palatable substitutes, not knowing your tastes. I do know there is protein in almost every food..

There is also this...a company called Quorn..I'm planing on trying...check out their creativity.

    http://www.quorn.us/about/

    THERE is also Beyond Meat...

Look at their 100% plant protein products

EDIT: The Today Show put Beyond Meat to the 'steak' test. Both Anchors failed..They thought it was the real thing

Bill Gates and Twitter founders LOVE this product, as well.

Also, White Castles have veggie Sliders..I hear they are good.
Skip Burger Kings veggie Burger...They need my sister to whip up a better burger for them to sell!

Finally, peruse Whole Foods Market...some really creative protein foods.

I've been vegetarian since 2000 and almost vegan...it's quite the commitment to change your entire lifestyle, but once it's in place, it's so easy.

Like Blissimo said, there are so many different vegetarian protein options available these days, that it's quite easy to replace flesh for friendly. Once you've gotten the hang of it though, you'll discover new and exciting avenues to explore that doesn't revolve around the meat and 3 veg meal.

And flexitarian is a term I've never come across before

Thanks for all the info Bliss, never heard of Quorn, will have to check them out for sure! I'm down to only two meat sources, turkey and salmon, everything else is cut, so no chicken either (insert stereotypical Black man/chicken joke here

Im working on it, slow process for me to go full vegitarian, I have noticed a BIG change to my tastes, since I have been cutting out meats and refined sugar, for me its all about finding good tasty alternatives before making the total switch otherwise I know I will fall back to old habits. Thanks for the input and encouragement.
