    I think his point is unlike a lot of other groups blacks aren't often mistaken for other races, so since "Shaquita" (stereotypical bw) doesn't get mistaken for any other type of woman it must be too far fetched to believe that VW could be mistaken for anything else (sarcasm)

    Sorry I'm wading back into this discussion late. Ideas of passing and perceptions of race may be relative to your experience, to some degree, I guess. Here's a public official I worked with in the 90s (black) that my ex-wife (from Spain) refused to believe was black:

    She thought they looked more like people from the south of her country or the Middle East and struggled to wrap her head around it. Or perhaps what she really struggled with was US racial categorization.
