Sad thing is, we could do this for a bunch of cable channels that have lost their way and abandoned their original missions in chase of the almighty $$$ (A&E, Bravo, etc...)

I guess that's why I don't watch as much as I use to.

I think NFL Films were the Youtube of its day. This Week In Baseball was like network news. Those were days when sports was about the sport and not about the spectacle.

Yeah. I miss that MTV. Did you know that it was co -founded by Mike Nesmith of The Monkees?

    hahaha :?
What you don't understand is that in Australia, we caught all the old shows...... Even your American soap operas were 7 to 10 years old by the time we saw the first episode. So yeah, we got a lot of the rerun stuff.

Alan Funt. The Candid Camera show was revolutionary. It came before the prank stunt shows we see now. The show originally came out in the 50's. And it was used as a social experiment to study human behavior, habits and so fourth. The Candid Camera experiment didn't go over vet well in Europe. Especially with the French. They didn't't like the outcome, even though it was a harmless study.

Remember The Battle of The Network Stars? Back in the 70's and 80's, the three major networks ABC, CBS, and NBC competed in sporting events where the stars of their more popular shows participated. If the did that now, it would be a week long event with all the new channels out there.

Speaking of, remember when daytime TV seem to be full of Soap Operas? According to Wikipedia, there are only 4 left on the major networks, down from 12 in 1990-91 and down from the all-time high of 19 in 1969-70.

Yep - Soap Operas and Game Shows until Phil Donahue came along and started the talk show trend

You couldn't really avoid Phil Donahue. I remember he would come on after Captain Kangaroo.

Where I lived in Raleigh Donohue came at 4pm. Candid Camera was on when I was a kid, came back on in syndication(My city did not),however,I saw on HBO The Candid Candid Camera which Mr.Funt did much racy stuff. I did not know until I was researching that Funt did the racy stuff back in the 60's and released in theaters. Oh I hope Peter Funt has that stuff on DVD since I would love to see it.

I remember HBO's Candid, Candid Camera. It came on before the burlesque shows(before HBO's Real Sex, Candid, Candid Camera was very tame but hilarious) which closed the broadcast times on HBO before it was on 24/7. I also enjoyed HBO's Consumer Reports show.

Do you remember when Sally Jessie Raphael used to come on late nights? She did when I lived in Wharton, N.J. She had a lot of male strippers on there. When her show went to daytime, the Chippendale Dancers made an appearance(I actually met one of them who had been on her show).

I always thought the decline began around the time of the OJ Simpson drama, which was the precursor to the rebirth of all of the courtroom shows like "Judge Judy".

The courtroom show's like The People's Court, Divorce Court, The Judge, and others filled the void before Judge Judy.

Those shows had died and were resurrected after OJ/Judge Judy. OJ was 94/95, Judge Judy came in 96. The People's Court returned in 97, after ending in 93. Divorce Court returned in 99, after ending in 92. The Judge ended in 93 with no rebirth.

Divorce Court is older and longer running. Both shows had a previous life(s) and died and would have probably stayed buried if not for OJ and Judge Judy.
