Italian police: Muslim migrants threw Christians overboard

Rome (CNN)Muslims who were among migrants trying to get from Libya to Italy in a boat this week threw 12 fellow passengers overboard -- killing them -- because the 12 were Christians, Italian police said Thursday.

Italian authorities have arrested 15 people on suspicion of murdering the Christians at sea, police in Palermo, Sicily, said.

Why migrants are dying to get to Italy

The original group of 105 people left Libya on Tuesday in a rubber boat. Sometime during the trip north across the Mediterranean Sea, the alleged assailants -- Muslims from the Ivory Coast, Mali and Senegal -- threw the 12 overboard, police said.

Other people on the voyage told police that they themselves were spared "because they strongly opposed the drowning attempt and formed a human chain," Palermo police said.

The boat was intercepted by an Italian navy vessel, which transferred the passengers to a Panamanian-flagged ship. That ship docked in Palermo on Wednesday, after which the arrests were made, police said.

The 12 who died were from Nigeria and Ghana, police said.

Thousands of people each year make the dangerous sea journey from North Africa to Europe's Mediterranean coast, often aboard vessels poorly equipped for the trip. Many of them attempt the voyage to flee war and poverty in Africa and the Middle East.

More than 10,000 people have arrived on Italian shores from Libya since last weekend alone, according to the Italian coast guard.

Many die each year while attempting the voyage, often when boats capsized. Last year at least 3,200 died trying to make the trip. Since 2000, according to the International Organization for Migration, almost 22,000 people have died fleeing across the Mediterranean.

The IOM reported Thursday the latest boat to sink in trying to make the journey. Only four people survived from the original 45 on board, bringing the estimated death toll so far this year close to a thousand.

 

This will never get the coverage that it deserves.

 

It won't get any national media coverage at all.

I will admit the media's unwillingness to report any news story that casts Muslims in a negative light is the dark side of political correctness.

I also wonder since many of the main movers and shaker in American media are Jews, if there's an implicit caution not to appear like they're Muslim bashing and create any negative blowback.

Still doesn't explain why Fox, if they haven't, covered this story.

 

If these were white Christians it'd be plastered all over the news. But, to be fair, I haven't checked any of my usual news sources in the last 48 hours. So, it could have been reported and I just haven't caught up.

Between composing, watching DVR'd shows, and listening to music, sometimes I'll miss whole news cycles completely.

 

ISIS has just slaughtered dozens of Ethiopian Christians. Have not heard a thing from our President. Muslims killed 150 Christian students in Kenya. Have not heard a word from our President. Christian women are being raped by the thousands and sold into sexual slavery. Christian children are being beheaded and sold into sexual slavery. Have not heard a thing from our President. We will someday pay the price for this silence when they arrive here. There is a Christian extermination in the Middle East.

You really think it's the President's responsibility to hold a press conference every time there's an atrocity in the world that doesn't specifically affect Americans??

Since you weren't paying attention, Obama has been seeking approval of war powers from Congress to send military and humanitarian aid to rebels fighting ISIS in Syria.

The GOP led Congress is sitting on their hands because they're afraid of authorizing another Gulf war and being blamed if it fails.

Obama has talked about ISIS and its numerous atrocities several times in front of the camera.

It would be stupid for a U.S. President to argue we're fighting against ISIS and similar terrorist groups because they're killing Christians.

You'd be playing right into the jihadis hands and turning this conflict into a real Holy War and legitimizing their grievances.

When you're dealing with fanatics, you don't confirm what they already believe.

Last time I checked, ISIS is slaughtering Muslims too.
The guy burned in a cage was a Jordanian pilot and likely Muslim.

Justt the other day they arrested two Americans leaving Missouri and San Diego going to fight with Isis and then planing on coming back to America.. we've had the woman in New Jersey - we've had quite a few Americans going to train with Isis.

Furthermore, last month ISIS claimed they broke into the State Department(?) records and got the names of military personnel, publicized it and issued a fatwa for American Muslims to kill them instantly if they see him on the street , or break into their homes and slaughter their families. Soldiers on the list even responded. I will try to find the story to make sure I'm not recalling incorrectly any details..but for sure ISIS is here.

 

It's the same horror stories we heard about Al Qaeda infiltrating the U.S. in the early 2000s after the WTC bombings.

We had Americans who actually joined Al Qaeda and fought against American troops in Afghanistan.

A handful of converts out of a nation of 300 million is not an invasion or a threat to our national security.

On MSNBC they reported ISIS got the names of those soldiers because their names and addresses were all PUBLICLY AVAILABLE ONLINE TO ANYONE in Department of Defense and Pentagon records.

Hardly an infiltration by ISIS.

If the Conservatives really want to fight ISIS, give the POTUS the war powers he seeks so he can start sending military aid to Syrian rebels.

The issue here is of the thousands of migrants who are dying as they try to reach Europe.
It has being going on for a while now.
I can imagine the horror of being on an overcrowded wooden boat,especially for people who were never at sea before.
I dont think we should let one story on a p[articular boat let uis forget about the thousands of others.

Something about this whole thing seems staged.

 

Obama wants to supply military aid and instead of acting independently as is his right as the Commander In Chief, he's seeking the approval of Congress. The problem is Congress is refusing to hold that vote.

No one wants to go to war, but once you start supplying combatants with weapons, ordinances, logistical support and U.S. military 'trainers', it only takes one U.S. soldier being killed or captured by ISIS before we are in a full blown war.

Anyway, everybody's already 'here' already.

We've got thousands of Americans who worship Lucifer as their Lord and Savior.

We've got thousands more who actively drink animal blood thinking they're half vampire.

The FBI constantly monitors internet traffic for pedophiles communicating online because there's an underground community of potentially tens of thousands in this country.

The presence of bad or sick people in a nation as large as ours is problematic, but nowhere near a serious threat level to our society and way of life.

That's why whenever I read about some state legislator proposing a bill outlawing sharia law, it makes my stomach flip.
