There is dash-cam footage that shows Slager approach and ask Scott for his papers which he says he doesn't have yet..etc. Slager goes back to his cruiser and Scott gets out, is told to get back in....he does...then gets out again and runs. Most likely he decided he didn't want to go back to jail. Should never have cost him his life though. Wasn't a threat. Slager in fact, endangered others lives in the park as well, when you think about it. Here's the video... http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...-car-records-sounds-struggle-pulled-over.html
I say give Mr. Santana the black Dominican immigrant (Hispanic) who took the video a medal. He should be recognized. He almost erased the video because he feared for his own safety. It was reported that he initially went to the police but was not taken seriously but took it up to another authority. My hat off to you Mr. Santana. If it was not for him there would have been no evidence of this murder that could have been hidden.
When Scott's mom met him, they hugged and told him they consider him like their son now. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...ateful-family-met-bystander-filmed-death.html
Yeah anytime you open fire, you take the risk of hurting others If you're shooting at a banger who's shooting back...that's bad enough When you're caught spraying bullets at someone unarmed...hmmm
I don't know any parents who teach their kids to run from the police Growing up bm were being targeted by cops, but I was just told to not provoke them...no sudden movements, no combative attitude, etc.....the 'talk' Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't...like the calm guy shot while doing exactly what the cop said
Remember Officer Robert Wilson III who was shot and killed at the GameStop here? The 2 robbers had semi-automatics blazing, and Wilson had the awareness to deliberately draw them AWAY from the customers so they would not endanger them.
The sign of a good tactician You definitely don't want to get hammered for reckless endangerment Many people will praise killing shooters but others will see that as an opportunity to exploit dead/wounded civilians
Of course people should not run from the police. I want my kids growing up with a healthy respect for the police. It truly breaks my heart though, that those who are paid to protect and serve may not protect my children like they'd protect their white counterparts. There's truly a fine line between raising our kids to respect the police and also ensuring our kids aren't blind to the racism that exists even within the groups that are supposed to protect and serve US ALL. Idk. Teaching kids not to run from police may be easier said than done for some folks, that's all. I don't disagree with you at all, I just think there's much more to it.
Carry a camera at all times and record incidents with the police That's about all I can add to teaching your kids because this shit is real Whenever I start driving, I'm definitely going to do that
Indeed, but it didn't warrant Slager's response. Nor did it justify Slager tampering with the crime scene and filing a false report to cover his ass after the fact. Anybody who's ever seen an episode of cops knows that guys who try to run from traffic stops get chased down without incident all the time. Slager knew that Scott was unarmed, and Scott obviously wasn't in any kind of physical shape to get away from the scene. If he'd done his job and tackled him, we wouldn't be having this conversation. BTW I'm not at all surprised to see you here parroting the right wing line about how the dash cam footage somehow justifies Slager's response while completely ignoring that the fact that he fabricated evidence and lied in an official report. You think Slager was a "good guy" who just blew his cool for a few moments because Scott was stupid enough to think he could get away? Bullshit. http://www.ibtimes.com/who-mario-gi...int-against-walter-scott-shooter-2013-1876426 This guy was a thug hiding behind a badge who was abusing the color of authority on the street against citizens day in and day out. Same goes for the other cop in the video who didn't bat an eyelash when Slager threw down the taser next to Scott and the department brass who covered for Slager in the Mario Givens incident. It seems to me that a so-called "conservative" such as yourself, who purports to be worried about government overreach, should be much more upset about police overstepping their bounds when dealing with the public and lying to cover their tracks than some guy who made a bad decision to run from a traffic stop.
By the cop, too. The question remains..should be police draw and fire their weapons if they are in pursuit. lm pretty sure the law favors no. Slater failed miserably in assessing the situation and threat level. There was no indication Scott was packing heat as he fled..so no excuse to shoot him, even if Slager's taser failed to subdue him initially. l understand that a cop might want to avoid physically catching and restraining suspects because of the real possibility of their gun being used on them...but Slager offered no verbal warning, which suggests he fired out of laziness and adrenalin, rather than "fear" No one should ever die over a traffic stop (cop or motorist). The compounding issue is that cops hate it when they have to physically chase runners. We just saw it in Arizona the other day...cops tasered and then brutally beat the living hell out of that (white)man worse than Rodney King, for making them chase him after he stole a horse. They complained they "became dehydrated" as a result. Smh. .
That's just lazy police work Cops run unarmed dudes down all the time on tv There's a reason why slager was fired and bought up on charges, no questions asked
No questions were asked before the video surfaced, either. Go figure. I saw footage of him at his arraignment... he looked shocked, pale, in a daze. I'm betting he'll be on suicide watch soon. It's amazingly scary how many lives end or change in an instant because of split decisions and guns.
I'm just trying to figure out what was going through his head One shot at a fleeing dude by accident ok....maybe I'd buy that.....but damn he dumped like half a clip into him for what?
A completely unnecessary tactic on his behalf. Guns are only to be used in a time of imminent danger. Probably not the first time he's done it either.
I didn't want to run after him again. I'm too tired and lazy so let me just shoot him dead and cover it up.-the officer's thinking There you go and he would have gotten away with it if it wasn't for a recording. The recorder needs a medal of freedom and witness protection because the police will probably be coming after him. The irony is that he tried to give it to the police first and they didn't want it.
