I think the conflict comes more from whether or not it should be a govt involvement situation, and questioning the methods being used to determine the parameters (bmi). I understand that and have my own concerns about such things. I think that's a normal reaction, given that so often when such things come about they get twisted into things that were not the original intent. However, in many industries over time there has been a need for some sort of governmental/legal intervention to protect people. This particular industry often involves young girls and major safety concerns. There was some other noise in the thread, that happens with many/most of the threads in this forum. I don't quite get this idea of "shutting it down" etc. What does that even mean?
thank u. . however u didnt need to pull it out they knew. they wanted to play dumb. these people arent happy unless people are arguing. im shutting it down. i already reported it to webbie.
shutting it down means im getting webbie to get rid of the thread. people want to start arguments so im closing it down s
Oh I see. I don't think anyone broke any rules, but I could be wrong. Derailing/distracting posts and needing to navigate through the bs is part of the landscape here. Rarely does a thread stay on topic consistently. I mean you even posted links for stories regarding women being called "fat"....so I'm a bit confused. But you do whatever you need to do.
The article clearly said: a BMI under 18 for a 5 foot 7 inch woman. BMI's can be argued all day - 18 is a hell of a low number, no matter how you slice it. Using the BMI barometer here is completely valid and applicable.
Yes I understand and agree with you. I'm just saying that was one of the discussion points. There has to be some sort of standard though and no matter what it would be, there would be people who didn't agree.
l don't why anyone would have an issue with them asking that a woman be 121 pds at 5ft 7. To model clothes. The human body can only survive until a certain weight point. There isn't much leeway given to diet backwards from 121 pds....until you reach the point of death. Our female bodies are not designed to regress say 40pds less of that, at 80pds (5'7), however 40 pds more, a body is still functional at 160 (5'7). So it's not about fashion or shaming here, it's about living or dying on the job.
I think these comments would be better directed (and comments quoted) to those who expressed issues with using BMI as the standard.
It's no different than when we talk about racism someone needing to point out violence against whites happen to. And what does it matter where this law is taking place the basis of the argument is the health of the employee and the effect it has on the public good and if goes one way why can't it go the other? And why can't this be perceived as thin shaming? The narrative only goes one way?
Shutting what down ? There's no arguing. You're excited about nothing. You're white knight shit is getting old.
I'm reporting him every time he insults someone He'll report me every time I call him an idiot It'll all work out in the end I heard the food was good in jail
ok. yep im white knighting.....im good with that. never mentioned names but still mad huh? i said ..."i see it coming." im stopping it before it starts. so u are upset because im stopping it before it starts ...why? u know good and well keywords come up and people get mad regardless of the intent... come on now.
Because IT IS NOT. This is not about naturally thin women. It is about young healthy aready slim girls who are told they still need to lose weight to get a job. Have you ever heard of someone being told "you are not fat enough to do the job"? No? Me neither. As soon as you see this happen, tell me about it and I would be just as concerned and pissed off. So stop trying to turn this into something it isn't.
http://www.nytimes.com/2007/11/30/sports/30obesity.html?_r=3& Maybe coaches won't use the word fat.....but they definitely pressure smaller players to gain weight, among other things High school sports aren't a job....but I'm willing to assume professional teams pressure certain players to gain weight or risk being let go After these guys play....it's a very real struggle to lose the weight/avoid weight-related health problems
Actually I've heard that with actors like John Goodman Roseanne Bar Kevin James etc. It's all about maintaining a certain look the audience is use to. And if we really gave two shits about the well being of young women modeling itself wouldn't be allowed. An industry solely based on outward appearance isn't good for anyone.
Stopping what Kojack? A respectable debate you're the one stirring the pot you're the one making shit argumentative. Everyone was having a calm respectful conversation. Stop creating fires to put, out
I remember growing up looking at a model explain to low-self esteem girls, that she goes through an entire transformation process to look that way Modeling may be good for one group but it does negatively impact others
