People do all sorts of things online.

What has being online done for you (positives, negatives, whatevers)?

I've become more open-minded as far as respecting other people's opinions. At the same time, I've become more committed to my own standards, beliefs, etc.

    I have:

    - been involved with helping to prosecute adoption scammers
    - my daughter's birthmom found me online
    - connected to people who turned out to be friends
    - connected to people I ended up dating/having relationships with
    - earned 2 degrees online
    - the various banking, taxes, identity theft, etc
    - been scammed and catfished
    - had amazing conversations
    - had some awful conversations
    - sent things I shouldn't have
    - learned about all sorts of things I would have never known about
    - researched bizarre things
    - created websites, marketing materials, etc
    - watched porn
    - completed surveys
    - watched videos, listened to music

I'm sure there are more I will think of later!

I've met several girlfriends online, a bunch of jumps
    Made some really good friends
Made more money online than in the physical world
Learned a lot about computers, about cultures, about people
But to be totally honest I've probably watched more porn in the last couple years than every generation before me combined

LOL! I'm sure that's true of many people! That and then that thing that was said about how FB has been mentioned in like a third of divorce cases in 2011.

I always wonder how many people are now "multi-taskers" because of the net. That used to be thought of a good thing, but I'm not so sure. I was at the store yesterday and over 90% of the people in there were doing something on their phone. I think there was a movie like that when I was younger (don't remember which movie) and we all thought it was so crazy, little did we know it would really happen.

Congrats on your future wife! That's great!!

I like to call them zombies.
People walking around looking down and not paying attention to their surroundings at all.
They constantly walk into poles or other people, miss their train stations etc. or they stop walking so abrubtly that people behind them will bump into them.

    - I love to look for craft ideas or recipes online.
    - I use pages like pinterest for inspiration
    - I do a lot of online shopping which saves me lots of time.
    - I'm using online banking.
    - It's easier to stay in contact with former co-workers through facebook
    - I like to watch tutorial videos on youtube (and music too of course)
    - I use ebay to sell my stuff instead of getting up early and carrying everything to the fleamarket
    - I google almost everything from health issues to advice how to fix things in the house
    - My last relationship started online
    - I constantly use conversion pages for helping me with Fahrenheit/Celsius or foot/inch to meter/centimeter

Oh and I met some extremely awesome ladies called Ches, Lippy, Bliss and Tam :freehug:

I have learned many things online(like ideas, opinions and facts). Made friends. Shopped for things. Look at YouTube clips and the like.

Sooner or later, I would have to spend more time out among people in the flesh than online. I do enjoy face to face human interaction.

Internet makes me feel sad for our species sometimes. There are so many trolls who get off on being assholes it's ridiculous.

However being online can be comforting too. It makes me feel better to see that there are other people who are into the weird shit that i'm into.

    THIS.

Cracks me up actually, considering how much time and energy they spend trying to make others feel as if they are the messed up ones and not the other way around.

Yes exactly! Someone ran right into my daughter and then acted like it was her fault. We were then standing behind someone in line and they were so clueless to what was going on, the clerk had to say something 3-4 times just to get them to finish the transaction while everyone else is waiting.
